Warranty about to expire, want to get into DIY

All,

Now that I’m approaching the 50k point, I was wondering for all you DIYers, where did you go to for answers in doing your own work?

I have an 18’ C63 Coupe, and I probably would do simple things myself, but don’t know how with our cars.

- brake pads / rotors
- fluids (potentially)
- spark plugs?

anything else I should learn to do as a new DIYer? Also where have you found good resources for these services?

I'm excited to truly own an AMG inside and out lol

I've been a DIY-er on all my previous cars; this one will be no exception. I just replaced the front and rear pads, rotors and wear sensors and it was pretty straight forward. I searched YouTube and did a Google search for tips and information and was able to find some helpful videos there.

I will say, however, that there is much less How-to instructions on forums and online in general for this car.

Search ebay for WIS/ASRA, the MB workshop repair documentation. $8 or so, it requires some computer savvy to install and run.

Nothing crazy. A socket set (mm), ratchet, breaker bar, torque wrench, brake cleaner, some caliper grease, jack and jack stands. You'll probably need a hammer to help get the rotors off.

I’d also recommend a caliper spreader or similar tool to retract the pistons. The rear pistons are retracted electronically via the brake pad replacement mode in the gauge screen and there’s a process to enter that mode. Also doesn’t hurt to have a one man bleeder and bleeder bottle to change fluid. Oh, a non-marring hammer and some chop sticks to get those pins in/out of the front calipers.

Yes. I forgot to mention a caliper spreader and the procedure to retract the parking brake. You can find the caliper spreader on Amazon and the procedure to retract the parking brake on YouTube. If your car is a non-S model like mine there are no pins to worry about on the front calipers. The S model does have pins retaining the pads in the caliper which makes for easier brake pad changes.
