How often do you change brake pads on this car?

I took my 2020 C63s to dealer for 2nd year service B last week and they told me that I have to replace both front and rear pads as they only have 2mm left before triggering the sensor.

My car is daily driver with no tracking and it only has 14,000 miles on it.
I am kind of surprised that the pads went through so quickly. I think my previous BMW M3's performance pads lasted longer than this.
Anyway, I declined the service and made appointment with indie to get both front and rear replaced with original MB C63s pads for $600 cheaper than quoted.

Got ~18k miles from the first set. You can wait until the brake sensor triggers.

Thank you. I guess I will be fine for another 1-2k miles on it. I made appointment for mid July anyway so I think I will be close to triggering sensor by that time.

Oh wow. Are you driving mostly on freeway?
Most of my driving are local with a lot of stop and go which may explain why my pads are worn out quick. Still cannot believe I have to replace pad just after 14k miles.

Couldn't tell you because as soon as I was able to install new pads I did just that. Now, 16k later, I'm still running EBC Red Stuff (ceramic) at all four corners. Love 'em. Stops good cold, no noise and minimal dust.

Front brakes 16,500 miles and rear brakes 18,000 miles. Both times the Check Brake Light came on.
Also had the front and rear rotors replace at the same time the brakes were replaced.. Front rotor measured min thk 33mm and actual 34.1mm and 34.3mm. Everything done at the Dealership.
Did the Dealership advise the measurements of the rotors?

I haven't changed my brake pads or rotors in over 2 years and my wife and I make it a habit to drive this thing every single day. I drive it like a goon.

I'm on the stock S red brakes using OEM Mercedes pads too so you shouldn't be changing any pads for at least 3 years.

Also, others mentioned that keeping ESP on Sport or Off helps with rear brake pad consumption but I don't see that effect because i've kept the ESP to always On or sometimes in Sport this year as we've had non stop rain here for the past 6 months etc. and pads are good.

Mine is just a prefacelift btw...

Why don’t you list the mileages on your car? My wife and I drive every day too 😁 She drive to work 10 mi one way = 6720 mi per year and I drive to work 65 mi one way = 21,840 mi. You guess the point, right? You’re gonna shoot me for this.

I believe they checked rotor during service. They did not suggest replacing it, yet.

I always drove my car in esp sport mode… but I guess that did not help conserve my brake pad much.

Because I didn't think anyone would give a sh*t about what I wrote let alone read my post seeing as this place is half dead now. But I'm on 56,000 miles and it's driven 20-25 miles per day and if I drive it I'll make sure to give it a few good hits here and there.

Good to hear you drive yours each day too, I thought your car was a garage queen.

There isn't any magic to brake longevity. Brake wear is proportional to how much they are used and some driving is harder on the brakes than others. Daily stop&go driving gradually grinds down the pads, because they operate in what's called abrasive mode when they are cold, whereas once they have some heat in them they rely more on the layer of pad material on the rotor for stopping power. Daily driving actually scrapes off that layer or doesn't build it up in the first place resulting in more wear and noise. Occasionally giving it the beans on the open road also doesn't mean you are using the brakes, unless you end up doing some hard high speed braking. On the open road one can do more engine braking for example. ESP Sport or Off is also largely a myth, especially on the FL S models. The 9-stage TC relies mainly on precise engine torque management and the faster reaction of the improved e-diff to control traction before too much wheel spin occurs in the first place that would require the brakes to slow down the spinning wheel. On the other hand the new AMG DYNAMICS system in the FL uses the rear brakes to help the e-diff torque vector around corners. So a lot of hard cornering wears the rear brakes more than driving mainly in a straight line. My brake wear mainly came from hard high speed braking on the German Autobahn during my ED trip, and some laps around the Nürburgring, followed by regular canyon carving back in the States. Not much stop&go driving for me. I'll see with the second set how much of a difference the lower speed highway driving resulting in less hard braking in the USA will make. I'm expecting a bit more mileage out of the current set. On the other hand I have DISTRONIC, which uses the rear brakes more to gradually slow down.
