Rear Shocks Leaking

Hey all. I have a 2019 c63s coupe with a little under 30k miles and found out yesterday that both of my rear shocks are leaking. My factory warranty is out but I still have CPO. Going in later this month to hopefully get the issue fixed under warranty. I know that others have had similar issues and warranty repairs. Wondering if anybody knows if an alignment will be necessary and covered under warranty if they end up replacing both rear shocks?

When mine leaked around 18k miles they just replaced the shocks under warranty no alignment. Every dealer is different. They may or may not depending on your service writer.

Turns out this isn't covered under CPO warranty, just factory. Does anybody have experience with this issue recurring after replacement? It seems like it might. Wondering if something aftermarket is the way to go?

Funny you say this. After the dealer replaced mine they started to leak again. Im probably going to take it back in before the warranty is up once AGAIN. Bad design on the rear shocks.

Dang. How long did the new set go for? I'm paying out of pocket so I'd like them to go at least 10 or 15k, or so. Problem is the only real replacement I see is KW V3 and that set is like $4k that I don't want to spend right now lol. Do you leave your suspension in sport+ a lot? I know I do, but doesn't mean the design isn't terrible on them.

I had both my rear dampers replaced under factory warranty, but not for leaking (mine is 2019 as well). Mine were making a high pitched electronic noise that came from the damper module. I'm not entirely sure how that affected the dampers, but ride was improved with the new dampers. So far all is good. No leaking. I only put the suspension in Sport+ when I'm hitting up a fun road. Otherwise I keep it mostly in Sport at higher speeds and Comfort around town.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever noticed any sound like that. I'll keep an ear out for it, but my new shocks/dampers are going on on Wednesday. I'll see how long they last. Obviously my shocks are leaking quite a bit and are done, but at this point I haven't felt much difference in the dampening feel on the rear even with them leaking like this. I assume it just gets very bad very suddenly once all the fluid has leaked.

Here's the thread on the damper noise issue, including a recording of it. It can occur not just on the rear dampers.

They lasted 6k miles before they started to leak again. By my next service they had started to leak. I made sure they replaced them the first time, They had new labels on them and shiny new shock body’s. I keep my suspension mostly in sport. First time they leaked were at 14k 2nd time at 20k. Mine do make the sonar sound as well even with new ones installed. C***** design from AMG.

Yea I been driving with the sonar sound for a few years now, but it only happens during winter. Surprised the struts are failing that often for y'all. I'm still on factory struts 2017 but only 37k miles

not a hard replacement. I got mine from FCP and Rockauto.com (original Bilsteins*) I can’t remember if I got the rears from one or the other but I know fcp didn’t have one set in stock.

either way easy install. And no leaks after obviously. I’d say I’ve put in a good 5k miles after install with no leaks

Asked my tech who works at Mercedes about this. The shocks are designed to leak from factory according to him as they come slightly overfilled. There is an LI document about it and they can refill the fluid if needed apparently. He used to replace the shocks until the doc.

To the OP... I swear I heard a noise coming from your rear dampers. Wow! I'd get that checked out. The tech might even catch the fact that the dampers are leaking while he's trying to re-create the noise that SS had on his '19.
