Gas smell

Hello everybody. I’m experiencing a weird gas smell after driving the car and when I turn the heater on as well. When I step out of the car I can kind of smell it by the rear wheel wells as well. I’m not sure what the culprit is but I’ll have it checked out soon. Car is a 2018 C63S sedan with 34,000 miles. Thanks everybody. Appreciate it.

My guess would be leaking pump in the tank.

The rear wheel area is where the charcoal canister system for the fuel is.

I’d start by checking that over, although smelling it when the heater is only suggest a leak or deteriorating hose towards the front of the car.

By any chance have you recently filled the car til the pump clicks, and then top it off a little more? I have read that it can flood the canister and cause a gas smell

What I have noticed is usually it’ll happen when I’m driving next to a gas station with my heater on. Doesn’t explain the rear gas smell though. I have tried pooping up the hood after driving and smelling around the engine bay but I don’t smell any fuel when doing so. I have filled up but not past the click ever. Only to max. Thanks for the reply.

I don't recommend pooping on the hood. That'll leave a stain 😀

Do you smell it all the time or only when the weather is cold like in the 50's?
I only smell it on mine when the weather is in the 50's. Took it to the dealership and it was a hose leak.

I smell it here and there. I don’t think the weather is affecting the smell. If I had to assume which isn’t the way to do things I would assume it’s the charcoal canister since it’s located towards the rear of the car. I can smell it by the rear wheels. I’ve tried lifting up the hood to smell for fumes but I never smell it in the engine bay. More towards the rear of the vehicle.

I think I found the culprit… I just have no idea what it is. It’s on the right side of the engine bay so passenger side. You can tell it’s wet from some leak.
