High mileage 129k 2017 amg C63s Edition 1
Still looking to get my AMG fix , one of these has popped up looks nice.
Price is good has some service records and clean title.
What to look for or run away?

too many things to look for at that kind of milage. All the timing components, the shocks, wheel bearing, the transmission. Just to name a few. I’d run away if I were you & find a low mileage one. Much less head aches

I ve been talking with the dude more out of curiosity . Found out the rear end had to be replaced due to worn out gears? $5000 .
I`ve never heard of that in a car before .
Maybe had an oil leak?

If the price is right and there are a lot of maintenance records I would be ok with it. If its a lot of "well me and my buddy" or "my mechanic buddy" and no documentation of what maintenance is done I'd stay far far away. What you spend for a lower mileage one will be worth it when looking at maintenance costs down the road potentially. Lower mileage cars can have issues or crappy maintenance as well, but with higher mileage ones I always want to make sure I have as much info as possible.

I've always stayed away from high mileage cars especially Euro cars especially high performance cars in general. Too many wear and tear components. Things now a days aren't built to last like the old days, it's the after warranty maintenance costs is where the money is made.
Even with records/receipts good or bad I still wouldn't purchase any car with that high mileage and you said there are only some. A Toyota part is going to be way less than a Merc part.
You may save money on a high mileage car but you may end up spending alot more in repairs down the line compared to initially spending on a lower mileage car.
Here's the kicker though, you never know until you know.

Something else that people don’t take into account is a warranty. Virtually no one will offer a warranty for an AMG. If they do, be prepared to hock the house.

My neighbor has an aftermarket warranty on his Ferrari F430 and he said it isn't too bad. I can't imagine a C63 or any AMG vehicle short of like a GTR would be more than that.

I am curious what you think is not a good price for an extended warranty? I have always been quoted 3-4K on extended warranties for AMG vehciels. 60months 50-60K miles.

Sounds like the electronic locking differential went south. That was a common issue in the early C63 and GT models. The other common issue in the early models are cracked dynamic engine mounts.

Here’s a list of things that went wrong with mine
1. Purge valve went bad (very common, loud ticking on driver side)
2. Coils
3. all 4 shocks went bad cause of ****ty midwest roads
4. Front wheel bearing went bad (pot holes)
5. Trans is rough but reset fixed that
6. Foul spark plugs from bad coils
7. Alignment problems caused by a faulty rear toe adjuster arm
Problems others are having:
rear diff, transmission slip, fuel pump and injector, rear main seal leak (very rare), all the timing components. This is all I can remember. Don’t even think about it, run away as fast as you can & find a low mileage one. 2018 and up

Well i finally ran away... Did get him down to 28g but the adage "if you can't afford a new BMW you can't afford a used one " kept ringing in my head.
So i`ll simmer down for a bit and wait.
i`m in no hurry.

That quote is only true if you spent all you saving on it lol. Or if you don’t work on your own car. I’m happy you ran away! Way too many things that can go wrong at that kind of mileage. Keep me updated when you find a lower mileage one!

Well i mess around with older muscle cars and my ducati 1198s so i`m not too bad mechanically.
But this grade of equipment would be a challenge.
I've just made a friend of a local mercedes mechanic who's familiar with AMG`s so there's that.
Just don`t want to deal with any major problems.
I realize i`ll never get all my money back if i tried to sell it, lord knows this guy is having a hell of a time trying to sell it now.

I'm in the same boat. had an E92M3 years ago and a couple other sports cars. Now i'm looking to pick up an C63S but my conundrum is buying a 2019-2022 with higher milage (50-60k max) or a 2017-2018 with low milage (under 30k). Even found one 2018 with 9k miles. I think I can stay in the high 40's to low 50's purchase price, just don't know if it's worth it for the 2019+ facelift with higher milage.
I feel you on the "I NEED AN AMG NOW!!!!) feeling...
Oh, and this will be a daily with the potential of travelling to work out of town on occasion too. So, I'll definitely be putting miles on it.
