Oil leaking intooo where?

So a couple months ago I changed my oil and trans fluid. Since then i got an oil level low (add 1 qt) warning, at which time I filled the car to the upper limit of the dipstick. Now 1 month after that I have the message again. Just checked the dipstick and it seems to be in around the same place as when I previously filled it, although the oil on the dipstick doesn't look as thick as it usually does when checking the level.

I am going to fill some more oil (which I can vacuum out the dipstick if I need) and see if the oil is indeed low. The question is, if it is low, where is it going? I took down the trans cover after the first refill and there was no oil leaking from below. If it's not low ... accidental warning message? Oil level sensor faulty?

This is a known and common issues. Its the faulty sensor. Dipstick is your most reliable indicator.

If your car is not leaking oil, it is burning it. I would get a leak down and compression test on the engine. Could also be turbo related (I have had to replace a turbo because of this on a non-MB platform).

So I forgot to mention that in 3 years of ownership the car has never burned a drop of oil, which was another thing that had me worried.

I was able to check the oil level on a warm engine and flat surface. Can say now that it was an extraneous warning as the level is correct. I definitely panicked a little bit the other day because last month the oil level was indeed low when I got the warning and I figured it was a legitimate alert this time too.

Thanks for taking the time to respond everyone.
