Measuring Body Gap Dimensions - How is reflected?
I picked one of the most popular forums to post this one - I am looking at a workshop pages for measure the gap dimensions on hoods, doors and lids and have the the Measuring tool as well. Does anyone know what the measurements mean when there is a 3, 6 or 3, 9 - what does the 6 and 9 mean? I believe the 3 is the mm gap but how does the 6 or 9 play into it? Then how does the (+/- 0,5) play into it as well? Again all dimensions are referenced like this I am using this on as an example because I found it on here and it was easy to take a snip it.
or in other words 3.1mm to 4.1mm is the gap between panels.
You can measure with calipers or if you have them GO - NO GO gage
these are flat bars machined to precise thickness.
The GO is machined to the Min gap dimension and has some tight tolerance it is never less then the min gap.
The NO-GO would be machined to be just a hair bigger then the MAx gap.
Some MB engineer decides.
The GO must fit in the gap and the NO-GO must not fit.
There are other methods.
Again - I get it its car body panel not a precision tool. I'm not breaking out the calipers to get 3.5 vs 3. I'll use the 3.5mm stick and if I can't get 4mm gauge in we are good.
Again thank you.
