Communication module software update

Anyone got this?

It was on my app yesterday and was installed this morning. Not sure what is this for

Funny thing is I started to get critical battery warnings just since installation 🤔

These cars….

I don't see a recent update for the communication module, but there have been several over the years. I got one in 2021 and two in 2023. One of them was a recall to fix a bug in the SOS system, but the others were non-descript and probably were just updates to keep pace with changes to the cellular networks. iPhones for example periodically get carrier updates to adjust the cellular settings whenever the carriers make some changes to their networks.

Well, I guess the battery update was resource intensive on the battery. Take this opportunity to drive it and enjoy the V8!

Thanks

Looks like it was my key fob draining the battery out 🤔

I’m sure its related to the update that enhance the comms, but now when I am close to the car for a while (not even hours), warning battery comes up

But when car is parked in garage with no connection with the key it can spend days without any warning…

What year is your car? This may be a coincidence or they fixed something that prevented the battery alerts to go out before. It is strange that you are getting them sooner while near the car, however that could be because things stay awake as it senses the key. The new key fobs (2019+) go to sleep after 2 minutes and no motion. Try this. Lock the car and leave the key fob near the car for at least 2 minutes. Maybe give it another 30 seconds just to be sure. Then w/o touching or moving the fob, try to unlock the car. It shouldn't unlock at this point as the fob went to sleep and stopped sending out a signal due to lack of motion. Now shake the key fob and try to unlock the car. It should unlock now. If this all checks out, then it's not your key fob.

You may simply need a new battery. I just replaced mine in my 2019. I didn't get any critical alerts, but the battery mostly showed as partially charged in the app and I have periodically hooked it up to a battery maintainer, which showed the battery charge is quite low. My previous maintainer actually claimed that my battery is bad. The new one I have has an automatic repair program, so it might have limped it along for a bit longer. AGM batteries are pretty much done at 4-6 years and need to be replaced. Now with the new battery the app's been showing the battery as charged the entire time, even though I only drive my car on weekends mostly and sometimes not for several weeks.

I changed the battery because I started to have an issue with the instrument cluster losing some settings after the car had been parked for a while. The new battery didn't fix that unfortunately, so I signed up with BenzNinja to reflash/update the cluster. Planning to do that next week when I'm less busy. Already got the laptop and he activated it and I received the C4 yesterday, so I'm good to go.

Thanks @superswiss

I will try that and see, but yes I am inclined to think this is a battery issue after all

Car is 2022 though

Good luck with your instrument cluster

Yeah that would be a bit early for a battery.

Ya I guess exceptions are if the battery was faulty/defective or over discharged when it was sitting on the lot which caused irreversible damage to the battery.
