Question Power Steering Noise & Seat Adj Panels

When turning, especially at low speeds, I hear a very distinctive whining noise. 2001 CL500 with 27K miles and Merc CPO warranty. Obviously power steering related. What could this mean? Low fluid (sensors would tell me this?) or the power steering mechanism is reaching it's last mile? What could it be and is it urgent to fix now? Thanks!

Question Power Steering Noise & Seat Adj Panels

To elaborate further, it happens all the time in all temperatures and it increases with RPM. Noticeable on offramps up to 15mph and can be heard in the cabin. Its a whining groaning noise.

Another question?
The seat adjuster panels on the doors snap out of place often and the rattling is driving me crazy. This appears to be a common problem with the W215. Does anybody have a way to solve this problem? Thanks!

Sounds like the power steering to me, and I would not wait on it because it can leak oil and damage other parts of the engine sitting under it. If you have a warranty then why wait?

The panels are loose because someone has been in them before. This is a common CL issue because once someone pulls the main doorpanel off, they generally do not put the little wood seat panel back right. They just need to be re-installed correctly. I don't think they are broken.

Those seat panels are a pain in the ***.....try pushing it in on the bottom left hand side (assuming it is the driver side).
My driver one is broke...one of the plastic teeth on the back of the panel....friggin $400 they want to replace it.

Thanks guys. I'll bring it to the dealer and post their findings. I have no problem taking the car to the dealer, just tough with my schedule now.

As for the seat adjuster panels, I will attempt to remove and re-install them gently. Pushing on the bottom left helped for a few days, but they still end up getting loose.

Other than that, this car is pretty darn solid. I'm still amazed at the fit and finish every time I enter the car, with the exception of those crappy seat panels.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

UPDATE
I finally got around to taking the car in for service. PS fluid level was fine. The noise turned out to be the power steering pump and a/c unit. Both covered under CPO warranty, thankfully.

By the way, these repairs came out to be $5,800! Anybody thinking twice about buying a warranty, here's your justification.
