Air Conditioning Won't Work

I have a 2002 CL600 (W215) with 115500 miles on it. Just today, my "AC OFF" light came (not in the dashboard but by the climate control buttons). It's a red light and I usually turn it off in the winter time for the car to blow warmer air. However, since it's summer time, warm air doesn't help.

I went over to my local mb indie shop and we checked out some issues. Initially, I thought it was low on freon but the car is full of freon with no leaks. Next, we reset to see if it was any software issue but that didn't help either. The light was still lit red.

Basically everything is fine except the air is blowing warm without any "conditioning."

This is the first time I've ever had any a/c related issue.

What do you think it is?

Thanks for your time.

I've got the same issue, just happened today...on my 2004 CL 600, with only 42,000 miles...it's at the shop right now, checking out everything, their talking compressor failure...I can't imagine this happening on a car this new (in terms of miles...) Would sure like to know if anyone else has had this issue, and was there any other possible cause?

Update

I found a link on Benzworld which gave me directions on how to find out the a/c problem. The a/c unit has it's own computer. It gave me an error code which in turn I asked my parts guy. He told me the unit itself runs about $960 if I remember correctly. I'm gonna call my service adviser tomorrow to find out the cost plus labor.

If you want to know how to access the self-diagnostic feature, just hold both the charcoal button along with the REST button and it will say what's wrong.

Having the same issue

I have the exact same problem with my A/C as you describe. I turned the A/C off several days ago while driving with the windows down and now it won't come back on. Pressing the "Auto" feature runs the fans but no cool air.

What was the resolution to your issue?

Thanks,

Scott
