Cupholders in 2004 CL500
 

OK so I was scared off by the reviews for the 2007 S500. Now looking at a 2004 CL500. Very good condition, have carfax history, no major repairs. Quite high mileage. Prepared to spend another $4-5K for any major repairs needed (ABC, strut, leaking hydraulic etc). Here's the one thing that stood out on the vehicle when hubby and I test drove it this weekend......there were no cup holders! :O I find it hard to believe that a $100K car (when new) didn't have cup holders. Not a deal breaker per se' because other than a few minor cosmetic things the cars drove really well and seemed to have been well taken care of an in good condition. Anyone on here own a 2004 CL500? If so, do you have cup holders? I'm thinking maybe there once were some but they are now missing. Where are they supposed to be located if they did indeed once have them? Thanks.

I don't have the cup holders between the front seats because in the UK we can drive long distances without needing to drink all the time. And spilt drinks can have a very poor effect on the transmission selector in these cars.

Anyway...if it is there it is in the cubby hole behind the gear selector...you can buy the part from MB...or Ebay.

Here is what the factory cupholder looks like. It seems like it would be flimsy, and while it does have a small amount of play, it holds my beverages quite well. It can be opened a bit more for a second beverage. It's supposed to open with the press of a button, but mine has to be pulled out manually. Not a big deal to me.

Yes that console cup holder expands to hold two cups

There's also a cup holder that mounts to the pasenger seat , it's very sturdy but expensive

Welp this deal was a bust. Had the potential buy (2004 CL500) checked out by my MB dealership this morning.

Diagnosis: Your 2004 Mercedes-Benz is still in the shop but the preliminary checks and multi-point inspection has been completed. Your CL500 is still in good condition however, our technician did find a few items that we need to bring to your attention. The complete multi-point inspection results along with our recommendations and an estimate can be found in the attached report.

Total cost for all recommended repairs: $11,262.00!! Needless to say....we're letting this one go but still looking because I love that car prior to the body style change in 2007 :(

That's not uncommon for mb dealer to find thousands of "recommended work " on a car that's really in good running condition

They found over $20,000 in recommended work for my car that ran perfectly !! Typical things like engine mounts , leaky valve cover and rear main seals, suspension bushings , etc all run in the thousands for labor and are typical for any high mileage cl

Basically anything that's rubber and starting to crack /leak will be recommended , even if the car can be driven another 100k miles without touching it

You can expect a number like that for any older Benz you look at. I've never heard of anyone getting a checkup where they didn't come back with an absurd number of 'recommendations.'
