Key fobs/start button. Do I get from eBay or the dealer?
so my car came with one fob. I looked online for a spare and noticed that my fob was on ebay. I suspect it's an aftermarket fob. Do I buy the aftermarket fob and bring it to the dealer? Or should I just go to the dealer and get a key? How much can I expect to pay? Plus my start button doesn't work. How do I get it to work?

a fob for you is the plastic key case right ?
the plastic case does not make your key malfuction
what works ? remote + key in ignition or only key in ignition ?
does your key open without pushing any buttons ? (that is part of keyless go)
please detail

ok
that means you have battery working
keyless go is inactive
that can have many causes
most of the time, the rubber buttons on your doors get leaks after years, that creates a shortcut in the keyless system and desactivates it
it could also be you keyless go key not or no more registered in the system
or your module not working
or antennas
you need to find a person with DAS system and do a scan
that will tell you what's wrong
99% chance it is not your key
a key cost 275 USD at Mercedes
so do a scan
I guess that its your door buttons

You can only get a working key from a Mercedes dealer
the only thing you can buy on eBay related to the key is the plastic case /outer shell of the key .
You can't buy a used key from eBay and have it work with your car , unless you buy the entire set of 4 anti theft parts - key , ignition switch , shifter and Ecu . If they are a matched set from a donor car they will work to start your car , but they might not work with keyless go .

they decode your EZS, EZS has to be removed for that
also, if you key is dead, you can get a second hand same key from ebay and solder the keystring holding chip to that key and you'll get a working key
ONLY 1 CHUP HOLDS YOUR VIN, that chip is one time writing

If that black key is really for a car with KeyLess-Go, I don't think it can work for Chrome upgrade.
If you only have one key, bust out $300-400 and get a 2nd from dealer.
Hurts, but hurts less than what is involved if 1st one dies or is lost.
