Will the w215 be a classic in the near future?

Hi all I’m been wondering if anyone else thinks the w215 will be a future classic coming on 20 years old and not seeing many on the roads, the 90s Mercedes couples have started to gain value and a following. I’m just interested as I love driving mine and there not worth a lot of money at the moment due to running cost but as cars become classic (more of a weekend thing) that doesn’t bother people as much.
intrested to hear your thoughts ?

I think so. I was tared and feathered for expressing that belief. The run on the W215 model was very low compared to the four door version. In addition, the TTV12 was made in an even smaller quantity.

The w215 is still depreciating . When I got my first one in 2014 they were $10k cars now you can find them under $5k. The 1990s cars haven’t gone up in value the 1980s w126 coupe have started in the past 2 years but that’s because of the interest in all german cars of that era like Porsche and bmw. M3 and m6 were first to go up way before amg S class coupes

the w215 cl65 might have some collector value in 20 years but they are still depreciating now . Considering a w215 costs $1-3k yearly just to maintain , you won’t be making any money on these cars by holding on

I think the days of high running cost have gone for the w215 as there are plenty of second hand parts avalable now , just self serviced my car with good quality parts for £65 (euro car parts 45% off atm) oil,oil filter and air filters. Same goes for the suspension parts are £200 a Conor now rather than the thousands it used to cost. I do agree however there isn’t much money to be made by keeping hold of them but I do feel they will be a rare and cool looking car in the future coupe car always seam to get that extra price tag asa classic.

Not for quite some time and maybe never. The only hope is there is some aftermarket interest in modifying the platform but these cars do not fit the mold of what would interest the next generation. They are too heavy, too complicated, and viewed as an old mans car. There is not a whole lot of excitement with these other than being a great hwy cruiser.

I don't know about the CL500 but a CL600 for 5K is mission impossible. Also I am talking about 2003 and later. Also if you are talking about "High mileage" 150k + then that may be a different story

tusabes 03-16-2019 02:40 PM

I paid $6000 for a 2003 under 109k miles, my bitrurbo cl600 two years ago and have seen them under $5000 recently

In what State of the US of A ?? I like to find a black 2003 or newer CL500 in the US$5000 price range

The 2nd most expensive MB you can buy is a cheap one and the first is a cheap MB V12.

Blown V8 is absolutely correct. I got my 2003 TT V12 black on black w AMG package for $7800 last year. Running rough w/ just over 100k on odo. Put in two V12icpacks and a VT for starters, engine instantly super smooth. Then about another 10K and counting. Still needs. LOVE looking at it. Worried about blowing out remaining front ABC lines. Have rebuilt most of them. The car is just amazing and I catch people trying not to look at it. Looks and rides like nothing else. Will the car appreciate? I don't think so. IMO It's a labor of love, not an investment.

Try to buy one now for 8K

Search autotrader.com for 2003 - 2006 CL600 and you tell me what you think? Do not put in a mileage limit

Getting harder to find

In Dubai we used to have lots and lots of C215 mostly Japan imports in the past 3-5 years for an average of 5K USD and above. Lately, it's very hard to find a clean 2003-2005 V12TT or CL55 with low Milage (under 100K) and are demanding a premium price.

Not future classics, but clean examples are getting harder to find. Grab one if you find it before they get rarer.

My 06 CL600 with just under 50k miles I do not see it going up in value. Not many people bought these new. Also, not many can afford to upkeep them.

Good luck trying to find one here under $14K. You may if it has high miles or beat up.

Look what I found

I sold my older W215 CL600 1 year ago and I thought I had enough with the CL and its continuous troubles and maintenance, until I saw this 47k km (30k miles) insanely maintained CL55 in superb condition and the color/styling just awakened my desire for this timeless design. I am back in the game with a big smile 😀

I just set the most recent comp. Bought a 2004 CL600 with only 18k original miles for 20k. In my opinion, you get a LOT of bang for the buck on these. The quality of craftsmanship is unparalleled. One of the last "true" MB's ever built IMO.

tim687 02-07-2023 02:27 AM

They are. I've got a CL600 '00 myself and the only thing that's rattling whilst driving is my gf and the stuff that she takes with her 😋
