Biturbo Intercooler Upgrade

Fist off I want to thank the group of people who helped me with this project: TECHNICIAN/Justin, RFlow/Albert, and Blackbenz/Ahmad. Justin did 99% of the labor as I acted as if I knew what I was doing, maybe it was the 2 straight vodkas I had for lunch before we started I have been under the impression, as have others , that the engine cooling system and the intercooler system are connected like on the 55K motor. Well after going over diagrams and making myself nuts, it isnt, but it isnt without its own faults. First and foremost is the stock intercooler pump which is has the same problems as the others, the stock pump has been replaced with a Johnson C30 and wired to run all the time. The stock intercooler system is a sealed and pressurized unit with small coolant capacity of about a gallon. I bought a 5 gallon plastic fuel cell along with Aeroquip lines and fittings. The system is tapped at the outlet of the front mount heat exchanger and runs to the reservoir in the trunk then back to the intercoolers. I have the ability to add ice at the track to further lower IAT's, I will do some datalogging this weekend when the weather is warmer to see how it reacts. Thanks again to everyone who helped out with this!!
J

Jason...nice work...how does it feel SOTP? Did you put hose clamps on those rubber connections to the AN fittings? Please post your IAT data after you get everything straight.

they are auroquip socketless fittings and so freaking tight i couldnt get them all the way snug, with the small amount of pressure in the lines its perfect, the other fittings by the HE all have hose clamps because i didnt know what sizes i need up there when i purchased these. I will get some data this weekend hopefully.

Yeah those things are a pain, you have to use some oil on the fitting to slide them in all the way. It will not leak so you are fine.

they were definitely a pain!! FYI I think your theory is holding true it does in a way "bleed" itself by pumping any air in the line to the reservoir where it basically gets vented, we took out the rubber gasket to allow the cell to be vented.

Great Job!!

Is your stock 600 intercooler set up the same as the 65? If so then I guess I could upgrade to the same system you are now using if it turns out to be an improvement. I can't wait to see the results. Thanks for the R&D.

You are a real adventurist. But why would you think the 55 and the 600 are alike? One is supercharged and the other is turbocharged. When you get your data logged, it would be interesting what the performance/hp gains are. Would it be more cost effective to just mod the ecu and/or the exhaust?

This is a real interesting project and if you can please share the results.

Good Luck.
