Anyone in Brooklyn that can look at a car for me?

If someone could take a once over of this car for me, I'd be really appreciative. Salvage title is worrysome, but car looks really nice plus has the rims I like.
Will be sure to drop by your house with a case of beer or bottle of wine if I go there to buy it.

Seems really inexpensive though ... Not to discourage you (because I am a firm believer that deals DO exist) ... but this is quite cheap for a car of this category.
FYI I traded in my 2002 S500 with 78,000 miles back in 2006 to Glauser Motors in Colorodo for $21,000 when I bought my 07 S550 brand new.
2002 S500 for $21000 vs 2003 CL600 for $25,000 just seems TOO good to be true.
However, what do everyone feel?

Can someone confirm that Mercedes put AMG on the seats of a NON AMG CAR????
AMG wheels - I can put on my car, as with the AMG sills..
But the seats - I have NEVER seen AMG label on Seats... and it doesnt look like they are on the back seats, which means the seats are NOT the same. That is fishy no?
Why would they CHANGE the instrument cluster to say V12 Bi Turbo??
OK - suggestion from Chucky... lol (I should write a car column) - Move away from this. MANY Shady things...

Caveat emptor!!! As much of a deal this car looks like....think about the costs associated with fixing something that could be botched up. If the car is salvage titled, I doubt you can get a reputable company to give you an extended warranty. The electronics have been fiddled with to put the CL65 cluster and seats. Who knows what other hack-jobs have been done to this vehicle. I may be wrong on this one...but the downside on this car is huge. If it becomes a money pit....maybe you could part it out...because I am not sure someone will give you anything for a salvage titled car which may or may not have 70K miles or 19K miles.

The car may cost you $25k to purchase - but it $30k to repair in 2 years - making this a $55,000 purchase.
Suspension will be $3000 if the ABC breaks.
V12 Engine trouble.... yikes!
If the breaks are screwed up... thats going to be $3000
If the A/C Unit is messed up....$3500
If the seat mechanisim fails - the motors are a TON!
I know you love the car - and I love that you are a benz lover - but as one enthusiast to another - try looking somewhere else.
I will take a look for you if you want - its no problem for me - but I just would be hurt if you bought the car and realized later on that he cheated you.

He said he'll bring to the MB dealer for me to have a pre-purchase inspection done. Do you think if the dealer gives a clean bill that should give me comfort? Or is it just better to spend $40,000 on a similar car with no title issues no matter what this car is like?

Nor would they like that the instrument cluster has been replaced to the V12 BiTurbo.
I also don't think they would be too thrilled that the engine cover was taken off....They will wonder why anyone would do that.
Unless this guy is a TOTAL poser...and wanted people to think he had a CL65 when he only went 1/2 the way in making it visually a CL 65... or the car was in an accident and he replaced the parts while repairing the car...
It just doesn't make sense... the front and back seats don't match. They will be 2 different leathers. 2 different shade lots...etc.
I really would pass.... but it is your choice.

Bradley - Christian was out... Man, that place does some serious business. There had to be an average of 30 cars an hour coming through. But we had a 9:30 appointment for a 1 hour inspection, and we didn't get the car back until 3:30. That sucked.
The car got a clean bill - except they didn't like the battery - said it was not the right MB battery. Other than that, they noted that it had previous rear damage. The car is incredibly clean for an 03. I bought it and will have it delivered next Friday. I'll post some pics when I can.

Congrats!! I am glad it checked out ok besides the battery. Did you find out who did the rear damage repair and how bad it was? I don't recall if it was noted in the auction though...if not - that was misleading.
May I ask what the final price was?? Will you be in brooklyn ever? I'd love for you to come to one of the next benz meets...i wanna see your new car
Does it come with warranty? How much did MB charge you for the inspection?

Wow 28k For a 2003 CL600, im at a loss of words!!
Great Job on your part inspecting it.
Did they run a dyno too see if the engine was fine?
Also its possible that when they installed the AMG cluster it carried the miles over.
On the C thread not a while ago, I read a post he put in his new cluster and went from 40,000 miles to 990,000 LOL!!
I think its on the C forum, I wonder what happend to it

Paid $28,100 - getting car Friday. MB noted rear damage but said it was repaired expertly. The cluster is original, it's just a "face" of a CL65 - so mileage appears to be original. Judging by the wear on the door panels, center console, etc. it looks to be a 20k mile car. It is much cleaner than many newer cars I have seen. The paintwork from the repair was unnoticeable - around the gas cap, wheel wells, etc.
MB planned to charge $250 for the inspection, but recommended I do Service A for $225 and then they would look over the car "for free" - so the oil change was done, too.
Big ***** - I don't know - I figure if it's running well now and MB didn't note any issues - I'll roll the dice. Similar cars would cost me about $10,000 to $12,000 more, so I have some room for an error in judgment. Only time will tell if it was a good move.
The auction listing and pictures did not do the car justice, so I figure if it was photographed and listed properly, it may have brought more money.
The seller is a really nice and seemingly honest guy, that flips rebuilt cars for a living. We'll see if I feel the same way about him in 6 months...

Congrats man, sounds like you got a good bargain. Sometimes the car accidents problems may not arise after a bit of wear and tear but you can't beat that price. Car looks very clean, I am sure it's even cleaner in person. Post those pics up and congrats again.

Salvage title from rear accident in 2005 (car had 17k miles). Then stolen in 2006 in NYC and stripped of seats and rims - replaced with CL65 stuff from another salvaged car. Then repossessed (no loan payments) by Florida company and sold to me with 20k. Repo company listed title as 70,001 without looking at odometer.

I wouldn't be surprised if you have 2 ks of cocaine under the spare tire.
