Help with CL55 Exhaust Diameter
The reason for my query is I have an E55 and I suspect the reason the E55 has a better torque curve but slightly less HP than the CL,SL and S55, is a different diameter exhaust. As you are probably aware, the E55 produces 469hp and 516lbft torque between 2650 and 4500rpm. The CL55 produces 493hp and 516lbft between 2750 and 4000rpm,
The OD of the rear pipes on the E55 is just over 70mm (around 2.75") which means the car has a 2.75" system. I suspect the CL55 will measure at around 90mm (just over 3.5"), meaning it is equiped with a 3.5" system.
Any takers??

I presume you are looking for the measurement of a single exhaust pipe but not the dual.
Its an interesting concept that you pose - not sure of the answer.
I am sure weight has something to do with it as well.
You can measure the diameter of the pipe with a tape measure, or piece of string and divide the length by 3.14159 will give the diameter. It is the single pipe that leads to either of the rear twin outlet mufflers. These are fairly easy to get to from behind the car.
I intend to make performance modifications to my car, so am looking to identify potential areas of improvement.
Thanks
