New to the Mercedes world and looking at a CL55.
) have been thinking about getting a ''fun car'' to actually take advantage of the area we live in(western NC) and I have looked at several different makes and models.BMW 650i(quickly went away from this car due to advice from a BMW shop in town)Pontiac G8 GT,BMW M5(V12 model) and then the CL55.
Luckily have a former Mercedes dealer mechanic that we take our Subaru to(he is now into Subarus) and he gave me some insight to the various Mercedes models.
He mentioned the issues with the ABC system,so I can see that being the first order of business.
I was thinking of having the ABC replaced with coilovers pretty much off the bat.
The styling of the CL55 along with the features offered grabbed me first, plus the power and seeming reliability(apart from ABC).
Found a 2004 model about 300+ miles away from us that is a color my wife likes and seems in decent shape.
Have the Carfax on it,have been in contact with the dealer but not a lot to go by from them.I did mention the ABC system and they told me there was an old ABC pump in the trunk of the car when they got it,not sure if that is a good or a bad thing.
It has just at 100,000 miles,is a very dark blue color, not sure what options it has mainly because I don't know what wasn't standard.
Any advice is appreciated.
With only 100k on it, it is still a baby. I only have 100k on mine and I never have had any problem with it (including the ABC) after 10 years of ownership.
So there are a lot of "sky is falling" guys on here that will say "replace it because it will break". But nobody has ever to my mind articulated any benefit to replacing it. Personally I will probably fix mine IF it ever breaks.
Drive it and enjoy it. It is an awesome car. A true supercar at a cheap Toyota price. There is nothing finer than booting it off the line and having the supercharger kick in and rocket you to 60 in 4 seconds. Do that in an equivalent priced Camry!
