Motor mounts

Anyone used the replacement mounts from E-bay on their "65"? They are pretty cheap, but I just can't imagine that there is an "after market" motor mount for our cars. Thinking it must be an actual Mercedes part, just not sure saving $100 is worth the risk if no one can vouch for these as being legit replacement parts.

They are also available on Rock Auto for even less....

It looks different than a stock engine mount. May be better or worse. Let us know if you go that route.

Scratch that comment, looks like the Febi mount which is OEM.

It is a tough call. They "look" the same but there is absolutely no way of knowing whether the stiffness is the same and this is the critical part. As you know, these are fluid filled and can vary depending on the design. I agree with you that it seems unlikely that there are multiple manufacturers of the mount but the only way to guarantee quality is to go with Genuine Mercedes. I went with Genuine when I replaced mine after reading from an expert on this forum that he even had issues with lemfoerder on the m275 mount and that it failed very quickly. He mentioned that lemfoerder usually is genuine quality but wasn't in his experience with these engine mounts.

Sorry don't have more personal experience than this.

Cheers.

Sorry to hop on this thread with what is likely a silly question, but how does one know when they need to replace the motor mounts?

Also, can motor mounts be the cause of a not perfectly smooth idle when in park?
Its smooth as can be in drive when stopped at a light or anywhere, but when in park, the idle could stand to be smoother.

You can usually see them leaking if they are failed.

I wouldn't risk an unknown mount on a V12 IF you have the early style mount arms that require engine removal. If you have the later 2 piece arms and can take the mounts out in a couple hours, then it's not a big deal to change them again if needed.

I'd really like a quality aftermarket mount like the ones East Coast Euro is making for the V8 guys.

Thank you both for the replies. Will view the motor as a friend gives it gas tomorrow just to see where I stand.

Mine happens to be an 05 55. I'll acquaint myself with East Coast Euro. Thanks again!

Less than 22k miles on her but can't hurt to check.

Found mine when I had my son hit the gas in the car while holding the brake like in the video below your post. I had no vibration, never seen any leakage from the mounts either. I was checking to see if the motor was moving and causing a electrical issue that kept happening on abrupt hits of the throttle and saw the left side jump up so much I'm surprised I don't have a dent in my hood, lol.

I was hoping someone here had confirmed they are correct stoc mounts. Not willing to take the chance to save $100. I'll be getting them from my local dealership.

Honestly probably smartest option given how hard you are pushing that thing.
I just remembered something about this-I recommend that you order new bolts for mount. At least get the top 4 (2 on each side i.e. the ones that connect the aluminum bracket to the mount). When I was changing mine, the used bolts were stretched/worn in such a way that I could not achieve proper torque per WIS specifications. I thought that my new mount had stripped. I ordered new bolts and they torque to spec without issue. The bolts are cheap so better to have new then get in there and have an issue.

Cheers.
