2013 CL65 misfire (mechanic only changed 1/2 the spark plugs) Opinions Please
Hi guys, So my dad has a 2013 CL65, it now has 32k miles on it. It has Renntech tune, lsd and high flow ic pump (done from previous owner, car was purchased w 20k miles). Last week his CE light comes on and he takes it to his mechanic and it had a misfire/misfires. Lets fast forward to today where I find out he paid $1400 new driver side coil, and something like $200 for 12 oem spark plugs and then like $700 for labor. The total bill was like $2500. My dad had all this done without talking to me or I would of fixed it for him. Despite getting ripped off I was explaining to him that his car did not need new spark plugs, let alone that no honorable mechanic would only replace half of the spark plugs. He is stubborn and doesn't listen to my advice bcuz I guess he trusts this mechanic bcuz hes been a mechanic for 30yrs, whatever...and I am only 35 (even though I built a my 650hp sl55). Bcuz the car is modified I am now also concerned that there is also a possibility the other 6 cylinders are possibly using different/ plugs than oem. Its possible the coil failed and at the very least he needed a new coil but this not guaranteed since they did all this work after the CE light came on only once. Please share your opinions of my dad having only half of the spark plugs replaced given this info. This was the first cl65 this mechanic ever touched and typically only works on older MB and BMW's. I need my dad to open his ears to this community since he wont open his ears to anything I advise. Thanks guys, much appreciated!!!!
bottom line, you have wasted your cash, you could have got all spark plugs and both coil packs better then OEM for 1430
and yes, do not change one side sparks only. this is my personal opinion, not a fact
