Help! There is no thrust in my 600..!

Well, compared to an 190E it still is fast, but not as it should.

I mean, the car's supposed to have 500hp, and 800Nm of torque stock, and
I bought it in Germany at a MB dealership, with only 62000 Km (99000 miles).

And on my way back home from Germany, I had it tuned for 1200,- €uros.
The german company that tuned it said it's now 578hp, and 910Nm.
And he told me not to be disappointed at first, because it'll take a 4-5 hours drive before the car adjusts to all the new data, and have full effect.

But the thing is, when I clocked the car a week later (with a G-Tech, and a stop watch, I was PRETTY disappointed!

From 0-100 km/h (or 62 m/h) it took 5,2 s..! Stock does it in 4,7 s.
From 0-200 km/h (125 m/h) it took 19 s..! Stock does it in 15 s.
1/4 mile in 13,7 s, with an end speed at 172 km/h (107,5 m/h)..!
Pretty embarrasing, wouldn't you say..?!
Especially, since it suppose to lack only 34hp to a 65 AMG!
Something is terribly wrong here..!

I directly called the german tuner. And he said;
-"There must have been something wrong with the car in the first place, before the tuning".
I said that I couldn't tell, since the drive before the tuning wasn't long enough.

So, he told me to take it to the MB dealer where I live, to have it examined.
I did, and they told me that the separate cooling system for the intercoolers, had an "air pocket". That means, the temperature there is to hot, and that means, that the car lowers the turbo pressure automaticly.
Makes sense, doesn't it?
Well, they fixed that, and they also replaced a circulation pump there.
But, it didn't help!!!

So now what..? Does anyone have a clue..?
Or a simular car, so you please can clock that one, for comparason...
I'm desperate here.

Best regards,
maxabo.

i drive an ///M6
with all the power and that mileage, is it possible tht the tranny is slipping?
if it not coughing or sputtering, the motor probably is running correctly, just not getting all the power to the ground

ICEAMG: But really, do you find the milage high..? Because I had difficulties finding one, with a milage that low...
And as far as life-length goes, it has probably 90% left, I'd guess.

By the way, the engine runs smooth and everything, so this is really strange..!

Max,
62,000 kilometres is 38,500 miles (not 99,000 as you stated). So no, your mileage is not high.

Ask the dealer to measure whatever they can do to determine if both turbos are working.

It sounds like you're running on one instead of two.

Oops, I got that wrong. 38500 miles it is. Sorry. Now I see how ICEAMG thought the milage were high...
The Mercedes dealer here really sucks. They can't tell me how the turbos are installed (if it's like a 2-step story, or if there are two simular turbos on each side). Nor could they tell me how much pressure there's suppose to be, or how much my car has. They will check with the Headquarters or something, and get back to me.
But a friend of mine has a Bosch shop, and last friday we messured the turbo pressure at his place. We took a ride with a lap top, sort of...
At full acceleration it developes 0.85 bar, and when I'm breaking a bit at the same time it developes 1.0 bar.
My only guess, for now, is that it's more than stock.
Does anyone here know..?

The stock 600 motors develop about 14 psi (1 bar) of boost. I would expect more like 20 psi with an ECU tune. Also, the trap speed at the end of the quarter mile should be around 114-117 for a stock CL600, and over 120 for a CL65.

This of course assumes you are at sea level....at higher elevations your results may vary!

DoctorV8;
Are you sure that it should develope 1 bar of boost stock?
Because I called germany, and they said that they develope about 0.6 bar stock.
And in my case, that's pretty important since it's a simple way of seeing if the tuning increased the boost or not...

maxabo,

Every source I have seen shows the 600 cars making 14 psi, or approximately 1 bar, and the 65 AMG cars making 22 psi.

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc...des_cl600.html

"The turbos are quite small and thus spool up quickly to a maximum of 1.0bar boost, giving a torque curve that rises almost vertically between tickover and 1800rpm. It's then capped at 590lb ft to save the transmission and remains constant until 3500rpm before tailing off, relatively speaking, to around 540lb ft at 5000rpm, where maximum power is produced."

DoctorV8,
Thanks alot for that test. That is more than the Mercedes shop here can provide...

Does it feel faster when the engine is still cool? My first guess would be the intercooler pump. Once it goes bad and the intake air temp is high, the computer backs off timing and boost and probably adds fuel. Enough to take out 100 HP easily.
