FS-2003 CL55 AMG Designo Chromaflair - Less than 20k miles
A good friend of mine is selling her 2003 CL55. Fully loaded, it is a Designo Chromaflair edition. She drives her Range Rover as a DD, and this car has been kept in the garage since its purchase. This car was rarely driven as that it has less than 20k miles on it. I am not sure, but I think it has something around 16k. The car was purchased in the end of 2003 for $138,000. She is currently asking $65,000 OBO. Please PM or e-mail me for more pictures and information. Thanks.

That's right.
Looks like a nice, low mileage car with all options, though. And the color is very rare, not available in the US through normal channels. It changes color as viewed from different angles.
This is likely the only designo Violet Chromaflair CL in the US.

That car has the Designo Cashmere package on it. Still rare, but not the only one in the US. Cashmere was only available on the CL's and the W208 CLKs.

I'm in the market for an '03 CL55. For comparison's sake, I'm looking at a 26k mile, one owner car at a Benz dealer for $55k (includes 1 year warranty). It was a $120k sticker, but that doesn't make much difference now in the used car market.
I'd say that car, if sold by a private party might get $56k if they're lucky.

The paint code, by the way is 031.
Designo also offered a silvery/bluish Variocolor IV (code 036), and a greenish/grey Variocolor III (code 034). They're kind of cool, cars that change colors.
The variocolors and chromaflair colors are available on C, E, S, SLK, CLK, CL, and SL-Classes outside of the US market. If your dealer in the US knows what he's doing, he can special order one.

Designo Chromaflair
The car in the picture is not chromaflair. It looks too light! Chromaflair goes from "purple to deep purple to indigo to dark blue"

You're right, its not Designo Chromaflair. That is a very cool color. BUT, I didn't say it was Chromaflair. I said it was "Designo CASHMERE." In the U.S., this package is called Designo Cashmere. It is the equivalent to Variocolor II or IV (most likly IV - hard to tell from Designo brochure.).

Haha it is LA, and I will end your debate right now:
The car as Designo Chromaflair. Period. The color was engineered by a factory that produces paints for currencies of whole countries. There is a lot of technology that goes into this paint, which is why it is so unique.
The car has less than 20,000 miles on it, around 19,7. It is owned by a woman who drives it very very seldomly, and only for about 15-20 miles every time. It was also professionally cleaned and waxed weekly, no spider web marks anywhere.
Now the price...its been lowered. She's now looking for $57,500. She's also pretty desperate to get it off her hands, so if you're serious, drop me a PM or e-mail and we'll work something out.

It's kind of hard to tell from the small photo, but to me it looks like neither Chromaflair nor Variocolor.

Eleanor Owner:
Your friend no doubt has a really nice car. I hope it sells soon. It's a great color combination. Actually, my favorite. Attached are two photos of the Designo Cashmere Edition CL55. You'll find it strikingly similar to your friend's.
Designo Cashmere is a Variocolor. Depending on the light it can look brown, grey, and a bit violet. In bright sunlight, as pictured, it looks more brown. In an overcast or evening shot, it can look grey-violet.
If this was a Designo Chromaflair, it would look like the 3rd photo attached of the SLK. That is the ONLY known chromaflair paint Mercedes currently offers and as you can tell, its a very different color from your friend's car. Its hard to tell in the photo, but you can see the Chromaflair is dark blue that changes to indigo (look near the star and under the grill). I hope this ends the debate for you and everyone else on this thread. This doesn't change the fact that your friend has a very nice car with a $9k + option.

It's not mine and I don't know the owner, but just an FYI If you missed this one a couple of years ago here is a 2003 CL600 Cashmere designo Sport (not an AMG I know).

That post from "eleanor" was from a couple of years ago.
It looks like the 031 Chromaflair has a darker base of blue color (I know it changes) than the designo Cashmere "Violet blue" "Varicolor" correct? Both are beautiful and unique for sure.

That's correct, and that's what I was trying to explain in this post a couple of years back. Cashmere is a gray-taupe-violet color.

Sorry to disappoint, but your car is not designo chromaflair. However, mine is. Color code 031U.
