It's the supercharger clutch. Get it updated to the newer version and it'll go away.

There is nothing wrong with yer car. I had the chirp sound til I updated to the new s/c clutch also.

55proof, you will get even more responses if you bump up your font size to say 72. The problem is, people click on posts, and then once they see that the link is not written in all caps, they just click away, not even bothering to read it. If only the poster had used all caps! You seem to have figured out the secret to bulletin board postings!

BanzoBoi, what did that new clutch run you? My clutch has been doing that for about 2 and a half years now, and frankly it doesn't bother me at all. Unless it will cause greater ($$$) problems, I'm inclined to leave it.

I had the chirp on my car for about 4 years and I didn't mind it at all either. I had a friend take care of it so I'm not sure how much it was.

I had mine done about a month ago. It was making the chirp sound has well. Dealer replaced the supercharger bearing and pulley. parts $2190 labor $348. Did not mind the chirp too much but after a while I just had to do something. No chirp anymore. Maybe because I have less in my wallet so the car has less weight to carry. Oh well it is done and will be a good selling point when the time comes.

SHOULD I GET IT DONE IMMEDIATELY OR THIS WON'T AFFECT THE CAR PERFORMANCE,I REALLY WOULD HATE FOR SOME OTHER FLAGSHIP TO COME UP AGAINST ME,AN I CAN'T REPRESENT OUR AUTHORITY.DOES ANYONE KNOW THE PARTS NUMBER FOR THE SUPER CHARGER CLUTCH,AN PULLEY ALSO IS THERE SOMEWHERE BESIDES MERCEDES THAT I CAN PURCHASE THE PARTS JUST CURIOUS???????

Not sure if it will cause any other issues but a car this nice should not have a chirp. If you are like me after I got mine back it seemed a little quicker but that is most likely because I was not waiting for the "chirp" to happen each time I started to press the gas. Anyway below are the part numbers that MB dealer put on my invoice.

113-090-00-44
113-098-00-40

Both have a description of "coupling". Not sure why but that is what it says.

Smile Go to www.xautogears.com

I am sick and tired being charged an arm and a leg every time I go to the Mercedes dealer. I basically buy my parts online and ask a mechanic to do it.

My friend C230 Coupe broke last week and Mercedes dealer in Fairfax, VA tried to charge him $800!!! He went to Xautogears.com and get the alternator for $150 and he paid $90 to install it!

It is good to ask around for a reliable mechanic, after you buy the parts online.

ALL,

I agree with CL55AMGRON - I keep reading about the chirp but haven't read a description. I had what I thought was a chirp but it turned out the be the belt squeaking when cold. Are you all talking about a distinctive chirp when the blower engages?

Thanks,
TSS

It is very distinctive. At light throttle you can avoid engaging it but as soon as you gas it and get the RPMs above a certain point, CHIRP~! It is probably between 1/4 second and 1/2 second long, and bystanders can hear it. I don't mind it at all. Someone would probably have to get out there and make a sound clip isolating it. Most videos of the car on the Internet are at wide open throttle, or nearly, and the sound gets lost under the engine roar.

engaging

I don't hear the chirp. Does that mean my supercharger might not be engaging. I am almost sure it is but now I would like to know for sure.Is there anyway to check if the s/c is engaging.

It will feel like a pig if it's not engaging... True story, a friend of mine worked on an SL55 and found out that the blower belt was gone. Owner did not even complain about the massive lack of horsepower.

chirp

My car will push you back into the seat bigtime so it is not a pig. The s/c must be engaging. Thanks for the heads up.But I still don't hear a chrip. Don't know if the s/c cluch is original. Do all 2005 cl55 chirp or just some?
