engine oil depleting faster than usual?
Hi everyone
Today when driving, I noticed the warning sign "please fill up 1.0 liter of oil at the nearest filling station". I assume the oil the car is talking about is engine oil not petrol because my gas tank is full. If it is the engine oil, than it doesnt make sense, because I changed the oil at the mercedes dealer less than 3,000 miles ago. I was wondering if it is my aggressive driving habits that's causing the oil to deplete faster than usual, or is the engine malfunctioning or the detector is malfunctioning.

Thanks for the reply. So to fix this problem, I just add 1 liter of engine oil to my engine? Can I add any type, or do I add according to the previous type of engine oil my dealer added- sorry I am a beginner to cars. Can anyone also recommend a reputable mercedes mechanic shop in orange county(getting tired of stealership). Also, I might not be able to add the 1.0 liter any time soon, how long of a period of time do I have until the engine starts getting damaged?

As alx said, no. If you use the 5w40, you need to be very sure you get the right one. The 0w40 is the easiest and safest bet for most MB gasoline motors.

If I have 5w-40 in mine and can't find it locally AND don't want to pay the stealer $20 to put a quart in can I put 0w-40 in to top it off? I know this may have been addressed somewhere but I can't find it.
