cl65 downpipe upgrade
#56
Bringing up an old topic - ie going catless.
The easiest route would seem to be to merely replace the cats with a sections of exhaust pipe. While not as 100% perfect in flow, the restriction of the cats themselves is eliminated. I've wondered why no one who discusses eliminating their cats on any vehicle ever discusses merely eliminating the cats this straight pipe.
What software does a person use to delete the o2 sensor(s)?
Does doing to throw off other engine management calculations?
Also, what software would allow adjusting at what psi the wastegates open up?

Speedriven makes cat less down pipes so they can probably answer your questions.
As far as software, you just have to turn off rear 02 sensors and compensate for reduced exhaust restriction. It would b great if there was a tuning software program we could buy and do our own tuning, but I have not seen any yet so you will probably have to pay a tuner.

Are the wastegates electric? Are they measuring the boost by a vacume line? While I don't know about the CL65, most factory turbos can hold together with the wastegates set to a higher psi level (meaning the turbos then ultimately will be spinning faster with the higher boast up the rpm band).
Adding just a couple psi would equate to notable power, but am unsure if the fuel system would adjust to allow sufficient fuel mixture at the higher boost.

OE Tuning says they send software that allows you to do your own tuning, including eliminating the top speed limiter. I did not ask them if it also allows deleting the o2 sensors after the cats or if it would allow altering the wastegates.
if you have to pass any kind of emissions testing turning the cats off via tuning , you won't pass. j tubes are a better way to eliminate the cel light

w/g are vacuum operated. if you crank the adjustment rod manually to inc . the boost you may have issues with over boosting in colder weather. this could potentially harm a motor.

Here is quick video of my exhaust with the catalyzer filters removed. I kept everything original only took it to a shop they opened the catalyzers, removed the filters and welded it back.

Depends if you have mufflers or not, if you don't have mufflers the car is loud esp when you hit the rev limit, people will hear you ez 1-2 miles away. Drone isn't that bad when you have mufflers but w/o them you hear them esp around 40 mph.
That's why I opt to have electric cut outs in my car which imo was worth the extra 500. Even when I drive with dumps closed people can still hear me pull up so its still somewhat loud. But this is experience with my SL65 but I'm sure the CL65 isn't any different

I have a question about the check engine light and the down pipes.
I recently installed Speedriven downpipes for myEurocharged tuned CL 65. The check engine light came on immediately, which I thought was odd because my tuner informed me he could turn it off. After many weeks, I finally thought to replace the 2nd o2 sensor. While doing this, the mechanic removed the 90 degree o2 extensions that were built in to the down pipes. He said that the sensors needed to be in the exhaust stream. So my question is this- considering I have a tune, why or why not do I need the 90 degree extension? Thanks.
