Interesting concept - Pricey but awesome!

For those of us who own a CL, we know they have the suction doors. Lightly close them, and they suck and seal shut themselves,
How cool would it be to do a suicide version of them and change the hinges from the back to front? Meaning the doors open backwards and when you hold the handle from the inside to close the door, you pull the door towards the front and then they do the suction feature reversed. It'd be like a spaceship. I'm sure it'd be pricey with that big hose/grommet and all all that makes itll a work, but is it possible? It would be the only car that would do that. Like it is it an impossible feat to move those components from back to front
Plus it wold make getting in the back a lot easier.... If I could I would definitely get that done

I'm not really asking what people think of the idea, just if it can be done is all...

Everything and anything can be done if you throw enough money at it. Its a terrible idea, will look tacky and takes away from the engineering marvel the CL really is. If you have a Honda Civic and want to do this, by all means. Otherwise leave the CL alone in the at department.

Doesn't look tacky on a Rolls Royce Phantom, does it?

Yes. Yes it does. I'm pretty sure the door on the CL is a lot longer. Good luck ever getting out of your car in the parking lot.

Sounds like a waste of money to me.. It seems like you just do mods so you can say you are the only one to have it, as opposed to actually improving the car.

It doesn't look tacky because the cars comes that way from the factory. CL is pretty much as good as it gets stock as far as doors go, let's focus on wheels, tuning, spoilers and leave the well enough alone :-)

I am getting a pair of custom made carbon fiber bull horns for the hood of my car. Its going to be so cool. They are only 34" from point to point so it will look tasteful with LED lights in the tips.. Boss Hog will have nothing on me. I will be the ONLY one and everyone will be so impressed, they will ask if that is the "Black Angus Series CL65."

Back to real life.......

Some people just flaunt their ignorance as if it were money. If people like this only applied half the effort towards enhancing their career or future this country would be a much better place. Instead they waste time trying to re-invent the wheel on their nickel/dime salary thinking "they" are going to out do years of professional designers experience. I understand somethings can be enhanced which is fine. Besides wheels and performance parts I see everything else as being a waste of time. I'm sure the nonsense won't end and next week we will see a post on "mink seat covers".....

I sense sarcasm here. You don't have to like it, nor do I need to impress you. Some think spending $3K on just a shift knob is a waste of money....I don't When I turn my car on and flip the cap and the red button glows. I love it.

I'm not putting Lambo/gullwing doors or anything like that. As CL owners know, these cars have a mechanism that sucks the door in very nicely that still impresses a lot of people. The way that the interior door handle is closer to the front rather than towards the back would make it convenient to grab and shut it in the opposite way. So when the door closes towards the front, it would do the suction motion towards the front the of car instead of towards the rear quarter panel. So when you get in and hold the handle to close it, it would swing towards the front then click/suck in. Idk, personally (especially with my mods) it would give it such a cockpit type of feel. Sorry, I like different things and I have NEVER seen this type of mod done before. My apologizes for thinking outside the box. If done correctly, I know it would look very impressive and not even noticeable when the doors are closed.
They probably thought the guy who made the original Gullwing was out of his mind. I'm not drastically changing it, just reversing the latches. If it doesn't look good, which no one here can say for sure, I'd have the coolest doors on a CL. If not, it can always be switched back. On a plain stock W215 OK, but on mine, it really could look appealing.

Plus, I was also thinking of shaving the door handles as well to make it very sleek (even though my door handles themselves are custom as well) with the top chrome portion carbon fibered and the door handle shells behind the handles also in carbon fiber. Remember, you're dealing with one of the most custom high-end CLs ever here. Not just a simply lowered one with wheels. So swinging the door towards me when I get in and then having them suck in would be very unique. Last thing I want is to ruin my doors and the complex mechanism they work on. But there's always room for improvement. Esp. seeing how long those doors are, they'd be the longest suicide doors on any car. I appreciate the input. And if it looks bad/can't be done. I won't do it. Just throwing ideas out there that haven't been done. You may be pleasantly surprised.
AND it'd be much easier to get people in the back as well - but that's not my main concern

BTW I just wanted to ask what's your problem with me? Did I do something to you - ever? Bull horns? Judging by your pic and other posts, you believe the CL should be left stock. And that's fine. MB did a hell of a job, but styles change. I don't have a nickel/dime salary. With what I've done it's a $100/Euro salary. And everything has been done to my car in the highest regard, no shortcuts. Either OEM or all custom by the best deigner. Those professional designers did the best they could do, up until 2006. Even the exhaust tips have changed to the square style (which I also changed on mine too to update all aspects)
No mink seat covers, but Maybach headrests, yes. You have a bad judge of character and feel I'm butchering it, then so be it. You look at yours and it looks like an 05-06 . When you see mine, you say, "Ive never seen a CL like that in my life" That's my goal, and it's been succeeding wonderfully. Sorry if carbon fiber diffusers, side skirts, custom hoods, bumpers, and other misc. expensive parts offend you. We each have our own philosophy on modifications.
I don't know why I'm ignorant now for coming up with ideas??? And obviously I am enhancing my career and future to be able to customize a car that there is no market for customization. I don't live for it. But I've had a vision/passion for the W215 since 2001. And after all these years I'm proud of the outcome knowing I will NEVER see another like it.
Thanks for your opinion though, I'm sure you'd be impressed if I pulled up next you

Dude, it will be way easier to make everyone STFU if you put some pictures of you cars and share them with us... you can put new pictures every time you add something new...

I know I can, but even if I do it still won't shut people up as there will always be a smart *** trying to say something. I'm not doing a build thread nor was it ever my intention. I can post pics of it unfinished, but then I won't be happy. It's just the perfectionist in me. I just want to post it up one time professionally when it's finished and then be over with it. Not post work in progress pictures. It's like painting the Mona Lisa and putting pics up without the hair painted on. I don't have too much left, but it's not 100% in my eyes yet.

You really are a legend in your own mind, aren't you?

With what you've done its a $100/Euro salary. That doesn't even make sense, especially given its your parents money.

Continue going to community college and maybe one day you'll be able to use your own money for these asinine modifications.

I think it's his car and he can do what he wants. One of a kind ideas spark new ideas from others. To each is their own...

Now IMO I wouldn't do something like that because its a waste of time and money.

I'd be mad if a 22 year old has a fleet of better Mercedes' than a 50 year old with an S Class now found at the corner of every used car dealer. This is the AMG section...not the base section. Go there.
Parents money? How do you know? Why would my parents be giving me 10s of thousands of dollars to modify my car. Stop being bitter. I don't follow your threads, you know why, cause you have nothing to offer. Have a blessed day and take car.
BTW I don't go to Community College.

No. I'm quite shy/private/to my self and at times very hard on what I do and very hard to satisfy my own goals. However, a legend I may be (even though you put that notion out there, not me), not in my own mind but to the ladies I've come across and the successful people I've been fortunate enough to have amazing opportunities at such a young age. Thanks for the compliment
