Just bought a CL65 Loving it so far

I own a CL55 and everyone tells me to stay away from the 12 cylinder Mercedes. But I have wanted one since they came out.

My CL55 is nice and fun. But wanted something ridiculous. I wanted something no one has on the road. I wanted a CL65.

So I bought the one.

No regrets so far. But I will keep everyone posted on it.

My CL55 has 105K relatively trouble free miles. The few problems I had were covered by Warranty.

I have owned Ferraris, Porches and other exotics. So far this tops the list among any cars I have owned in the past.

I am getting old and like the supercar abilities with the super comfort of Mercedes.

I am having it delimited next week. Will post track numbers in the next few months.

Who said stay away from the V12 models? I want to know. I thought the right advice was to stay away from the V8 Kompressor models? They have all the problems. The V12's themselves are solid (apart from coil packs, and the 5.8 oil cooler). I love V8's, but there's nothing like a good V12.

I was told by a few people to stay away from the 12's. One was a Mercedes salesman. But then I started thinking. None of these people ever owned one. After researching online and forums like here. People raved about them. I found one guy who has owned three of them and said it was his most trouble free car. With the exception of the coil packs. He also said his biggest problem with the cl65 was the radio volume knob.

So based on his experience. I bought it. This car must be driven to be believed.

I've now owned five V12's - one Jag, one BMW and three S600's. The Jag was a disaster, kept me busy for ages, but I made a great profit on re-sale. The BMW and the first two Mercs were great. I think you need a good example to make it worthwhile getting over a V8, and you have work to keep on top of everything. If you think yours is good now, wait till you try an uprated charge cooler pump.

The only people that complain about the V12's in the benzes are the mechanics. It makes the engine bay tight to work in. The people that love the V12's are the oil companies because you will be filling that beast up frequently, especially once you get the tune. One thing to consider before getting the tune is read this thread:

https://mbworld.org/forums/cl55-amg-...-tcu-tune.html

Otherwise enjoy this supercar.

Nice, I used to drive an 03 CL55, and when the warranty was up I upgraded to CL65. Frankly speaking, nothing out there can give me the same factory performance for similar price. The warranty on this one is about to run out too, and I am keeping it. since the warranty replaced almost everything from door handle to transmission control module I figured it will last a while. I racked up 33k mi so far, sitting at 83k mi right now

Track results:

0-60 3.65 Seconds
1/4 mile 11.7 secs.

Note I was not driving for these tests. My friend is a professional got these times.

When I was hitting the track. I kept the traction control on and was just driving for top speed. I hit 185MPH and could have gone faster. But want to get use to it more before I go for over 200mph. For me when the corners come up so fast I let off the gas too much to get to the top speed this car can attain. In other words I was chickening out.

One other note. Took it to the dealer after running it that hard and not a note of problems.

My Ferrari after a day at the track normally needed $1,500 in service.

My goal is to hit 212mph.

What did you use to record those track results?

Sounds like the car has a tune on it already otherwise you would be hitting the 155mph speed limiter.

Top speed sounds like a tune, but 1/4 mile time looks stock. If it does have a tune then your friend is no pro. What MPH for the 1/4??? That will tell a lot.

Well he is a pro mechanic.. I guess not technically a pro driver. but much more experience then myself.
We went here...

Thunder Valley Raceway Park
SR 1505 (Old Lowrey Road)
Red Springs, NC 2837

I am going to go back and post my times. I have been going to an 1/8 mile track not far from my place. I had another friend tell me the same thing. that he thinks it should do the mid 10's.

On the 1/4 mile it says at 124 mph. 11.7 sec

0-100mph 7.8 seconds.

That's the info I have for now. Not bull****. Just lack of technical knowledge. I am a movie producer. Not a race car driver.

I don't think anyone is calling bs on your info. It appears to be in line with a standard CL65, perhaps delimited

On another note, what kind of projects are you involved in or have been in the past as a movie producer? I ask as I'm a PA currently working in/around (or where ever the shoots take me!!) LA. Always love discussing on going projects with producers on set.

I would believe it has a tune. The MPH is a higher than stock. It could be a conservative tune. It could also be based on a lighter launch. On Michelin PS2's the best I was able to run a 11.34 @125.93, but weather was on my side. Better times require sticker tires (drag radials). Even then getting into 10's isn't that easy with just a tune. Don't get the wrong impression I am no pro myself, 3 trips to the track lifetime. Either way enjoy it and good luck on your top speed conquest. Breaking 200 MPH is also something on my things to do list.

Sounds like a tuned car by my scope of knowledge. I still haven't tracked my stock 65, but would be doing back flips if it did your numbers. Good luck in your quest at 200+, I'm in interested in your set up method, think you can get some suggestions on this forum if you want.

I have been making crap movies.. I have worked on over 50 features uncredited. But these are the horrible films my name is attached to.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4427799/

I also made this for film students. Since so many people came to me out of school and still had no knowledge of filmmaking.

http://filmschools4u.com/

On the Mercedes note. I have a CLK55 as well and was thinking of tuning it as well. Any ideas for one of the better tuners out there? I do know the tune I have now is not a ***** out power one. Kind of a balanced one.
