2003 CL55 AMG possible part out with enough interest!

Call me crazy but I can't get the cooling fan to turn on in this car and that is the ONLY thing wrong with it even with a brand new Behr fan and control module so whole car part out! Can has a hair under 75,200, great condition, everything works! With enough interest in some of the big ticket items I will part it out. I have $12k in the car and need to get that back out that being said I can still make you a good deal. If someone wants to buy that car as a whole thats fine as well. I think it is the ECU under the hood on the driver side that signals the fan to turn on and it is not. The car is driveable with AC at speed and at a stop light the heater has to be turned on currently, very annoying so the car doesn't get driven.

Not worth it to just wire the fan to the ignition? I would do that b4 parting out a car.. I'm sure Uve taken it to the dealer as well and they couldn't figure it out?

Dealer said to replace the fan, they wanted $1,400.00 for a new one so I ordered a Behr replacement and it still didn't work. Found out the ECU isn't sending the signal to activate the fan. Not sure which unit REALLY controls the fan and I don't want to throw parts at it so I would rather just get my money back out of it and get parts out to those to make theres whole again. I would just send it the voltage needed BUT it is a pulse signal so if I put voltage to it continuously then it would work for a couple days a burn up the control module.

I'm not sure on these fans but I would assume you could make any 12v fan work.. Wire a relay off ignition and take 12v to the fan.. But maybe I'm wrong.. Does the stock fan take an adjusted voltage for speed or is it a simple on/off.. Wire directly to the fan itself and bypass the controller

The fan has the controller built into the shroud which has the M4/7 connector. From the module there are 4 wires that run to the fan that are not colored and all the same size. I really don't want the fan running ALL the time and the plan was to buy and sell the vehicle so I don't want to do a hack job to it. Will I part it out though? YES! haha

Clear title, never in an accident, clean car and everything works minus the fan. I purchased it thinking the fan just needed to be replaced so I could sell it for a little more money but that has back fired. Now I just want to get my money back out of it. I am located in San Antonio Texas.

When I made the ad I had the fan on order assuming that was the problem. Then it didn't work so before I devalue the car on eBay I am still attempting to fix it before then. I went ahead and dropped it off at a good indy shop to do some further testing. If the fan still doesn't work then I will not hold the buyer to the deal and if they want to buy it at an amount that makes both parties happy then I will still sell it.

There are many examples of aftermarket fan controllers out there. You can get the cheaper ones with a probe that fits between the radiator fins or a fancier model with its own water temp probe. Both also include a wire to activate the fan when the AC compressor is on. Then you just adjust the controller to activate at your desired temp.
This might cost you a hundred bucks or two, and wouldn't be a "hack" like just wiring it to the ignition switch. I know I wouldn't part a car out because of something so simple! |

That guy backed out and just heard from the Stealership that it is in fact the ECU and the fan so $5,000.00 to get it repaired with labor. I have decided to part it out! Any takers on the big ticket items?

I cant believe what i read here... part such a car out beacause the fan doesnt start. LOL.
For all others, i would check the fuses and especially the relays that sit on the co-drives sid in the engine bay close to the windshield wiper. There is a document in the WIS for measuring current there. |
If still parting, looking for the gear selector unit.
