will 265/40/18 tires fit on the stock front wheels?
im installing 285/40/18 rear tires on my '04 cl55 and wanted to know if i can move the rear 265/40/18 tires to the front, so i can keep the 245/45/18s as spares. the car had 4 brand new tires installed right before i bought it. i need stickier tires and want that fat rear tire look.

255/35ZR19 ET40(offset) 8.5 rim width
The stock for the CL55 is:
245/45R18/RF ET44(offset) 8.5 rim width
I have no rubbing problems whatsoever. You can compare using the following chart (I have used it for my various tire and wheel combinations and find it very helpful):
https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?whe...cl=50mm&sr=0mm
So this says (assuming you are using the same 8.5 inch front rim with 44 offset) that your tire will stick out 10mm more than the stock tire and will stick in 10mm more than the stock tire. I suspect you will be fine. Because of the combination of my different wheel offset and using a 255 tire I also stick out 10mm more with no issues. So the only issue in your case will be by going in 10mm more will it interfere with the brake lines. Probably not. Note you can always use spacers if you have inner clearance issues with brake lines.

I actually run 275/30/20 all round.
