i daily-ed my CL55 for 4 years, did about 40k miles. never had one issues besides a crank position sensor failing. funny as im looking at 65s and toying with the thought of using it for daily use. the gas just kills it for me.

Wow thats quite a list HopefullyE63, thanks for sharing. I don't mind doing repairs here and there to save a few $$$ but if someone has to spend every spare weekend keeping it up to date then I'd rather spend my time doing other things and so will the better half ;-) I've seen some great deals on some 600's...very tempting..

SL55 CL600 and 335D (rip flood) 325ci
I was where you are not that long ago Ather. The car is amazing! As I have said buy the absolute nicest one you can find as a junky one will only be a little less than a mint one and "making" one nice is ridiculous. ANY example showing ANY sign of neglect is a no go in my book. The nicest one will still need work periodically. Get a garage queen with books and records like I said and you will have an incredible car. I jumped in with both feet because I wanted a project for me and my daughter. It was exactly that. The car delivered well beyond my expectations
I would say yes to the question of needing two cars if you own a CL. If you do get one, get an AMG model or the turbo V12 only 2003 +. The NA ones have all the problems and no power. This may be blasphemy here but seriously consider an SL vs the CL. It will probably have a better resale. Working on the car is much more straightforward than you would imagine. You will want a STAR laptop kit from the bay ($800 or so). Not sure if saying that here is a no-no but I got one and it saves my butt constantly.
My car turns heads every time I'm in it. It's a connoisseur car. The ABC makes this car handle like nothing else. The thing begs to get me in trouble all the time. There is a reason people put up with the maintenance, it is a magic carpet rocket. I hope to get in front of the repairs and just enjoy the car. Italian Joe brought me up to speed on what he had to do to his and it was almost verbatim to what I did. It's nuts. I think almost all of them reaching this age will need to have the "wear" items replaced just on time elapsed. That is why I reiterate constantly that you don't want one with any cosmetic flaws. The mechanical is enough. If you don't love to look at it, you will hate it when it breaks.

2003 CL600 with 150k just purchased 2 weeks ago! Here we go....
My daily for from 2012-2018 was a 2001 CL500 and it wasn't that bad, put over 100k miles on it! Still have her but she needs some ABC work (Thinking of trying a coil over conversion...)

drove my CL55 daily for 2 years and loved that car (probably my favorite car that i ever owned out of the 50 cars i had) it was pretty reliable with the exception of ABC, i had at least 3 breakdowns because of it, and that in the end led to the sale of the car. Of course i owned the car back in 2013 when coilovers were not an option because if they were i would have def. done the conversion and kept the car longer

I realize this is an older thread but I daily drive my '03 CL 55 AMG, just don't have much in the way of traffic here. We live on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Most of the serious traffic we have here come from tractors, LOL! I mean that seriously, tractors. We're really rural, but then I do get to have my own shooting range at home with distances out to roughly 850 to 900 meters.
We're only 3 hours or so from DC/Baltimore Metro Areas and a 6 or so hour drive to Manhattan.

i DD my 2002 55 swap. it may have to do with never getting my ECU tuned after my swap, but my car reports upwards of 30mpg. i've heard this is a pretty optimistic calculation, i expect closer to 20-24 mpg at best, but still, for a v8 i have no problem with that as i know multple 4 and 6 cylinder cars that can barely manage 20 mpg

I drive my 2005 CL55 every single day, with a minimum of 350 miles/week.
I've lost a few ABC reservoirs, an ABC pump, and water pump along the way, but I absolutely love driving it.
Currently running on Yellowspeed coil-overs with not more than a few inches of ABC line still left in the car.
Should have done that a long time ago.
6 years into this thing.
I bought it with 67K on the clock... currently at 178K and counting.

Update.. still driving
Someone barely hit my rear bumper while my 2003 CL 600 was parked in a parking lot. Insurance tried to total her out!?
After a few months of arguing, I got her back, all nice and new looking with no salvage title!
Anyway, just did a quick trip from LA to the Bay and back to LA.
Couldn't think of a better car for the trip. Averaged about 18 MPG... not too shabby! (especially when I get 4-6 driving around town!!)
Edit: Just realized this is an AMG thread.... oh well... I still have the same ABC BS to deal with as y'all do!

Hi all, I'm looking at picking up a 03-06 CL55 and using it as a daily driver. Now that these fine cars are 12-15 years old, just wondering how many folks are using them today as daily drivers? Is it a "must" to have a backup car in case of downtime for repairs/maintenance?
I know the drivetrain is pretty much bulletproof it should handle the

i really enjoy the power and sooth quiet ride. Going on one year soon and only had the Crank Position sensor fail. 25 dollar fix and seems common with these cars.

Using my '05 CL65 as my daily. Have had her for 5 years, put 40k miles on it, mostly Houston street / toll road driving. Some problems but nothing outside the norm of everyone else. Normal maintenance items as to be expected at now 15 yrs of age and 82k miles. Only abnormal expense was replacing the fuel pump and the vacuum / egr device on the drives side valve cover.

What color is your CL65? I saw a blue one with brown interior come up for sale last month, have only seen black on black before that!

Daily driven CL55. 87k miles. Just completed full yellowspeed coilover conversion with all ABC components removed and front & rear swaybars.
