Ride Quality for a DD?
Hi Guys,
I've loved the CLA 45 since I first saw its picture...and after hearing more about its specs and performance I am very impressed. I'm interested in purchasing one to use as my daily driver.
I currently drive about 30-40 miles per day in a 2003 Nissan 350Z (upsized wheels/tires). The roads where I live are somewhat poor and the Z does not take well to them - I am beat up every day.
How do you find the CLA45's ride quality? My one concern is that the CLA 45 might be a little too hard for my daily commute. As it stands I wear lead 5 days a week so my back gets quite a workout. Unfortunately there isn't a dealer in my area with a CLA45 available...and they believe it may be Dec or Jan before I can actually test drive one. Other options I'm considering are the somewhat boring S4 and the somewhat overpriced BMW 335i.
Thanks for your help,
NM

I purchased mine as a daily winter driver and find it a very rough ride. I can't compare it to the Nissan, but compared to my SL63 it is quite painful in contrast. Suspension is very firm and it is quite loud (not engine noise - but road noise). I'm looking at getting rid of it and picking up an E63 instead. Just recently test drove an E63 and it was a much better all rounder for daily driving. If fuel economy and awd is important to you then maybe worth the trade offs, otherwise I'd look for a used 2012 or newer E63 instead.

I use my CLA 45 as a DD on the awful roads of Edmonton. I find that the rides really comfortable, and even comparable to the 2013 GTI I used to own even though I have the upgraded performance suspension and the Recaro seats.

I bought my CLA45 as a dd. Icognito, small, somewhat practical and still fun.
The ride isn't the most plush, but coming from sports cars and cars with modded suspensions, it's not bad at all. I wish it were available with electronic dampening, but I guess MB wanted to save money...

Well, it IS the cheapest AMG (and MB) after all.
Ride quality is fine for me as a DD. My wife's 135i with M sport suspension is harsher, my '03 Cobra had a similar ride after I welded in subframe connectors.

I think they should offer electric dampeners.
Have not had a chance to drive a CLA45. Test drove a CLA250 4matic, and thought the ride was quite choppy. Well worse than my CLK55 or SRT-4 with 100% poly bushings.
Could only imagine how rough a CLA45 with perf pkg would be...
In comparison, I also test drove the A3. Ride was very decent, though IMO, the CLA250 was more fun to drive.
I talked to the MB salesman regarding ride quality on the CLA45, he said it is quite harsh for a daily. He also stated that AMG plans on recalibrating the suspension in response to owners comments. (Not sure on the validity of the comments)
