New Voltage regulator but still Battery/alternator light?

Good day everyone.

I drive a 2006 W169 A180 CDI.

About 2 months back the battery/alternator light came on the first time, after about a week of charging through the night and driving the minimum i decided to open it up. Wow, not for the faint hearted, car in the air, protection plate off, disconnected the battery and then off with the AC pump and out with the alternator.

The brushes were too short, so i made a plan, i scrapped the plastic surrounding the hole where the nuts fasten the regulator to the alternator to shift the regulator closer to the shaft, got about 1.5mm extra, put everything back and it worked like a charm.

3 weeks back the poly belt snapped, i was able to get home on the battery but the car got a bit hot, but nothing too serious, i found a new regulator and poly belt, installed it this weekend together with an oil change and filter.

But, when i started the car, it still says alternator/battery take to workshop and the glow plug light also shows.

I went into the cars menu to check what voltage its running, when the car is off, 12.6v and when its running it is 14.1v so it is charging.

Its a Valeo alternator.

Does anyone have any tips for these problems i am having?
The car starts immediately as always.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Buy a genuine MB regulator! Your regulator is shorting the Lin bus so CDI cannot communicate with it . Glow relay is on the same Lin bus!

Hi Guys.

Sorry for butting in out of the blue. i have the same problem, BUT, 1st, it will take 8 weeks to get here, long time to walk 10km to work and 10km home every day. 2ndly, it will cost me a 5th of what my car is worth.
The difference, the "nockoff" R300 vs R5800 from MB.
Is there a way to "ünshort"the cheaper unit?

Thank you
