beware of this guy...I emailed him wanting his domain...he said he wanted 2k for his whole site I told him i will pass that up, and he said 1k....I said no, that i was only intereste in his domain...He said how much would you pay for it....i told him 50$ for his domain...He wrote me a pretty bad email back, saying im a jerk....he wanted to sell me his domain name for 1k....Guys let me tell you something about his before you look into it...His forum is dead, and he is claming having 2500 visitors a month which is a lie...He only has 235 member, and way more then half of them do not post, or even come to the board...Also make sure you look at the bottom of his page, and it will say "Most users ever online was 15 on Tue Aug 06, 2002 5:51 pm" With only the max of 15 users on at the sametime tells yout he forum is dead, and also that was back of aug 02. He is trying to scam someone out of money.....Please keep in mind...His forum was made from www.phpbb.com...That is a FREE FORUM! Do not let him tell you he made it, or paid for it, cause its all free...every bit of it...This guy paid 9.95 for the domain name, and made a few pages, and is now trying to make 2k....He bought this 7months ago, so his site is still very new....You can check that out at:
www.godaddy.com

im sorry to write this long letter, but i just wanted to let the people know what he was doing who are not to familer with this kind of stuff....You can make a site just like his for nothing!

Just a heads up.....

Hello,

You get everything, web site, files, all the visitors (about 2500 a
month), domain name, partnerships -- everything you see at

I replyed back saying i only wanted to but the domain:

Hello,

How much would you pay for it?
The domain name is the main thing in this site because it generates a
lot of visitors per month.

Dont cry to me....From looking at your site, Most users ever online was 15 on Tue Aug 06, 2002 5:51 pm....Your forum is dead, and is far from being worth any money....Your domain cost 9.95, and i was willing to pay a little more to get it....I have done web desgin for many years, and i know what you site is worth......Nothing. The forum like I said is dead, and it has only been open for 7 months....you also made your forum from www.phpbb.com which is a free service...I will be more then happy to warn everyone now about you..

Go ahead and "warn" everyone.
Also, mention that I own a web design and hosting company:

Internetcomealive.com
Livingdot.com

I don't know about your "web design for many years" but I'm sure that
your sites look like crap.

As far as visitors, see file attached, you piece of jerk.

Phpbb - why pay for Vbulletin when phpbb is far better and free.

I think you're overreacting. 2500 visitors a month isn't that hard to achieve on a small site. 2500/30=80 visitors a day. That sounds right to me, seeing that the site has only a few hundred members.

And the fact that you offered $50 probably insulted him. I know if I'm selling a domain name, I would never go for that. The guy's thinking in the high hundreds to thousands, and you're offering $50. For that amount I wouldn't even bother with the sale. Just the domain name transfer and paperwork will have made the sale not worth it.

But, he shouldn't have cussed at you. You guys should just call it a truce and stop this. Let him sell his domain. You're not buying it anyways.

Now, "Benz", why did you change wording in email number 10?
It's not what I said at all, here is text:

The name benzforum.com is definitelly worth more than $50.=
If the name is suitable to somebody it could be worth hundreds or even thousands $$$.

One thing insulted me is the following words:

"I have done web desgin for many years, and i know what you site is worth......Nothing"

Now, I'm a co-founder of a pretty successfull web design company, I know about designs as I have over 6 years of experience, otherwise people wouldn't pay me 50.000 for a site.

So that was pretty insulting, but I'm not taking it close because I know that this person doesn't know what he is talking about, just by looking at his email address and the way he talks.

As far as phpbb forum being free, - why would I use vbulletin when phpbb does that job I need and is free? why would I pay for something if an alternative works just as good??

Actually your complaint made the guy seem like a crook, especially if someone not too technically knowledgeable were to see it.

Let's see your $10K site!

by the way, I had a site once, I sold it about 2 years ago for 20.000, and trust me, Pweb's site will go for $1K or even $3k in no time! Just in 6 months having 3000 visitors a month is excellent. I'm gonna contact him now and make an offer.

Actually it is quite easy to fake an IP. Go to a different setup, server, etc. I will agree with BENZ that the probability of a 'newbie' on his first post wanting to do this is highly unlikely. I'm not saying it can't happen mind you, just that I find the coincidence hard to swallow.
Now, in regards to visitation numbers on said forum; why don't we simply ask LYNN. He is a moderator over there and most likely has info that could confirm or dispell the visitation claims.

Just my $0.02

First, Pweb and C240Star are not the same person.

Second, I don't have access to the number of hits per day. I do watch the forum closely. I would say that 80 hits per day is correct. All fora get a large number of lukers who register, read the fora, but never post. There is also a larger number that never register, but read the posts.

For mbworld, just over 20% of the registered members have never posted, 70% have posted less than 10 times, and only 13% have 100 posts or more. I have done the same calcs for a couple of international motorsports board which are far larger than. Their numbers are about the same.

Who cares how much he is asking for his domain/site? A few years ago people would spend thousands if not millions for a domain name that they wanted. And it had nothing to do with their user base. The company I work for owes over 2,000 domain names and some they paid 1million for yes 1 million kinda stupid.....but was worth it to them because of the name. Not saying that this guys site/domain name is worth anything.....It might be to someone. But as far as his HITS..(no one really should care about hits.) Unique Users would be something to look at. maybe if he has 2,500 (which is very very little) unique users member info with email, etc...that might be worth a few bucks to someone.

As for you to sending him emails and coming to this site talking trash about him is really stupid. First off if you REALLY feel that you would be successful with his domain name then it's worth something. You felt that it's ONLY worth 50.00....so he said no. so move on. don't sweat it. There are people selling domain names for way more then what he was asking for.....

also you have a Benz and you can't pay more than 50.00 for a domain name? hmm kinda funny.

Pweb. Not to start a I'm better than you war....it's just my 0.02. I just went to your site and I wanted to ask if you tested your site across all platforms and browsers? The reason why Im asking is that it did not work for me on a MAC OS 10.2 (Jag) with I.E 5.2.2 and Netscape 7.0. It frustrates me when I see sites that do not work on a MAC.

It's your header. the rest of the site works.

LlivingDot.com worked in Netscape but the header did not work in I.E.

maybe it's not your job and you have nothing to do with QA. Maybe your just a designer. But I just wanted to bring it to your attention.

and good luck selling your domain name.

In my view, the value of the domain name is a function of good old supply and demand. Someone has a domain name that someone wants (supply and demand) and the owner is willing to transfer ownership for x amount of dollars. That is not $50 or $2,000 but however much the person that wants the domain is willing to pay.

... as far as his HITS..(no one really should care about hits.)
If all the buyer wants is the name and not the files and the domain site and all, the number of hits would seem to be relatively irrelevant. The buyer is going to make the site interesting and make it capable of delivering some value to those who log on. He or she is probably going to change the entire thing so will need to establish a new customer base (some who have used the site before and some that learned of a place to get information that they couldn't get before.)

The domain name is worth whatever a buyer is willing to pay and the seller is willing to sell it for. As I said previously, a function of supply and demand!
