2025 CLE63AMG

Given the recent news regarding the return of the 63 V8 in the C and E class, is it possible this engine is being considered as an option for the new CLE AMG ,or is that just wishful thinking ?

superswiss 08-08-2023 01:08 AM

It's all possible. It's coming to light that AMG has shot themselves in the foot with this 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain. Word out of Germany is that there's practically zero interest in the C63 SE. Dealerships have no orders and the books are empty apparently. Nobody wants it. It's not like we haven't seen this coming. I think it's not just the powertrain, but the price point is absolutely ridiculous. We'll have to see how they price it here in the USA, but considering that the W205 started in the 70s, if they want nearly 100k for this as they do in Germany, then it won't sell here, either, or only at huge discounts. AMG is getting greedy and is completely shooting past their customer base. The new SL isn't selling, either. Folks are getting as high as 25% discount on them in order to move inventory.

Not surprised about the anemic C63 sales but shocked about the SL. I drove it and several others at the Full Day Affalterbach Experience and thought it was a blast but I'm not a convertible guy or a coupe guy for that matter.

Long live the AMG V8 and God help those who seek to thwart it.

What I'm getting from this is that I need to look at an SL.

The CLE450 is already 6 cylinder...

Would be insane to put 4 cylinder in the 63 AMG

What about both?

I am thinking about getting both

Well, here is a video of it being tested, how many cylinders does it sound like to you. I think the answer might not be as obvious as you think since there seems to be some fake sound played near the beginning of the video to perhaps purposes mask the sound? Along side of sound regulations in Europe.

W205C43PFL 09-04-2023 08:30 PM

Here is a CLE 53 instead, compare the sound, post your findings (if you want to):

ILoveNY 09-04-2023 08:35 PM

they don't sound like v8 to me

what do u think?

AMG RB 09-08-2023 08:18 AM

All I hear is tire noise.......that says a lot.

Saw the first one in May when I was at the AMG factory. Could be a V8 but only time will tell.

Well, I mean it is pretty much confirmed the W214 E does not get a V8 anymore, six cylinder is highly likely, there is just no way they dare to put a four cylinder in when competitors still have V8 (hybrid at that..)

Hmmm I rather you are right that it gets a V8.

TaranFLW 09-08-2023 07:01 PM

I'd hope for a V8 in the bigger AMG vehicles but I think it'll get the TTV6 treatment

AV1 11-28-2023 05:26 PM

Seems like no chance of a V8, the exhaust note of all vid prototypes confirms that, but maybe/hopefully IL6 engines and maybe that's also why it's taking so long for this models AMG variants to emerge.

It could be a case of initially having the M139L in the CLE 53 & CLE 63 mirroring the new W206 C43 & C63 however due to that cars outcome MB/AMG may have switched to the IL6 and development is taking longer.

Would be great to have the new E63's powertrain in the CLE 63 :)

AFAIK V6's will no longer exist in any new ICE/Mild Hybrid/PHEV MB's going forwards.

IL4, IL6 & V8 only.

This is correct, at least I6 is smoother and better balanced than a V6 so for that point only, it is a good thing.

IL6's are better balanced and smoother = YES...

On the flip side V6's sound/exhaust note is far better than IL6's = YES...if that matters seeing the majority of people are fired up and going bananas because of the loss of a good exhaust note LOL.

IMHO there are not many (stock standard exhaust) IL6's that sound particularly good...especially some from BMW seriously the worst sounding things I've ever heard, fart can description is not an exaggeration.

On the other hand I believe any V6 (even diesels) have a very good exhaust note and they also had advantages in packaging one of the main reasons all V configuration engines were adopted, even the oddball V5 and not too common V4's.

Well, I am not denying that given how I experienced the M276 myself and still currently have one in the form of a w205 c 43. That said, my next vehicle is likely the CLE 53, I am okay with the sound of the CLE 53, I know MB have given up on V6 and from the official sound clips MB posted, the CLE 53 doesn't sound too bad especially given how the regulations are (especially sound regulations), it sounds better than expected.

Just for you - https://www.carsales.com.au/editoria...vealed-143681/

I'm awaiting the CLE 63 "BUT" it all depends what it brings to the table, otherwise I'll swing over to the new GT coupe :)

Thanks, appreciate the link. If the GT coupe fits your needs, for sure get that as it is still the better vehicle with the V8 and all. In the past people want a daily drivable vehicle, not saying the previous gen AMG GT isn't possible to daily drive but the new one is much more daily driveable.

Exactly right, both these new coupes make for excellent DD's. Well done MB/AMG and thanks for keeping the coupe religion alive for people like us :)

Was never a fan of and still dislike the previous GT totally awkward disproportionate looking thing....I know the 100 mile long front end and 1 inch long rear end is to achieve front/mid engine mount for obvious reasons, but the end aesthetic is an eyesore, side profile looks like a long slim rectangle box with a helmet melded to the back of it...totally subjective on my part, at least it's still a coupe.

Complete 180 with this new one and overall better as well.

There'll be a huge difference in cost as well to consider.

Well, we finally got our confirmation on the CLE53’s engine. One thing I noticed is that the CLE53 is fitted with pretty wide tires, 295R and 265F. From that video of the CLE63, the tires look even wider so I’m guessing they’re at least 305R/275F which is how the C63 coupe should’ve come from the factory.

I think it would make sense for MB to go with the same powertrain as the AMG GT as they did for the W205, production run. But at the same time I don’t see them upstaging the more expensive AMG GT 55 by much which makes only 469/516 hp/tq. So it’s possible we see the same performance numbers as the C63s which aren’t too shabby.

If they are indeed bringing back the V8 for the CLE63, I’m going to give some serious thought about trading in my ‘23 C63s for one. Anyone else in the same boat?

AV1 12-09-2023 02:38 AM

Agree with the above ^^^

If you look closely at some of the latest CLE 63 camo pics (it's a convertible variant) the wheel rims are identical to those fitted to the recently unveiled GT 63, therefore tyre size will also likely be the same and match the above.

Still don't think the V8 will be included in the CLE, none of the released vids sound like a V8 one can only hope it's an IL6 as it is for the CLE 450 & 53.

And yes I'm of the same thoughts, if this new CLE 63 ticks all the right boxes pertinent with what I'm wanting it's bye bye C205 and hello C236...

I will however never sell my C204, IMHO it's the best C Class model ever made.

For sure, if only they followed tradition and got rid of the b-pillar.

Ya, personal preference for sure as I didn't dislike the previous generation as much as you. I actually like both the previous and new generation GT. Main complaints I gathered from forum members is the new one is too heavy and "too fat (looking)".
