sometimes, it doesn't matter what size wheels or type of tires you have... if you live in a place like NY with their crazy potholes and poor road conditions, you best be sporting 16" wheels & tires...

you just need to be driving with your eagle eyes and watch out for all obstacles on the road... or maybe you have some bad rims...

i have 18 x 8.5 / 18 x 9.5 lorinsers LM5's on my w208 and this is what nyc roads and potholes due to rims and low pro tires:

i had them fixed, reinished, lips polished and some new rubber put on about 2 months ago and so far, so good. ive been real cautious driving, not driving as fast i used to and keeping more room between me and the car in front of me so i can pay more attention to the road.

btw, my tire sizes before and after are as follows:

18x8.5F -- 235/40/18
18x9.5R -- 265/35/18

I had 17" Amgs. A few tires got bubbles, only got a flat twice. Since I got the Kuhmos, there were no bubbles, no flats, a very dependable and durable tire. Anything less than a 40 series tire is too thin for NY roads, and even that is pushing it, especially with a 40 series inthe front.
