Slightly different radio code question

A while back my '99 CLK430's stock radio started asking for a code. The display shows "CODE?". It wants a three-digit code. If I ignore the message the radio will go on to play the radio or CD after a few seconds. I've tried entering the first three numbers of the four-digit code, but that doesn't work.

Does anyone know why it's asking for a code? My car didn't come with a radio manual and I haven't gotten one yet. Thanks!

No clue. Try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and when the player asked for the entire 4 or 5 digit code enter it there. See if that solves it.

The radio that comes with MB (=Becker) has to be unlocked with a 5 digit code as soon as it's been disconnected from the battery, as an extra barrier to prevent stealing.
Bad luck if you don't have the code, it has to come with the radio on a plastic creditcard type of thing together with the serialnumber of the radio (so don't keep it in the glovebox).
Maybe this site can help.
Success, Tony.
