Occasional rattle underneath gear shift panel when shifting
Folks,
I just started noticing what appears to be a rattle or some loose part coupling beneath the gear shift on my 2000 CLK430. I'll shift into reverse and back out of my driveway, then as I shift through Neutral and into Drive, there will be some kind of rattle coming from underneath the gear shift knob, underneath the plate that marks the gears, it seems.
Also, it seems like the slight resistance you get while moving the gear shift knob is considerably less.
Once the car has been driven a block or so, it goes away. However, if I park the car and come back 5 minutes later, this seems to happen again.
Anyone seen this before and know what it might be? I have the extended warranty on the car, but I like to tell the dealer what the problem is first so they don't check my tire pressure when I describe a problem like this
