Just changed the my side mirror lights to clear
Contrary to what some of the people on this board is saying, the side mirror turn signal bulbs are not LED and they are not sealed. They are miniature incadescent bulbs and fit in tiny sockets. I replaced it with Sylvania 2721 bulbs available at any Pep Boys. There are six bulbs in each mirror. Three along the clear strip and three clustered in one corner. The wiring is a little odd though. Since the stock bulbs are 6 volts 2 watts bulb Mercedes wire 2 bulbs in series to each 12 volts wire source. The Sylvania 2721 bulbs are 12 volts 2.1watts each but when I replaced one of the bulb in each series with the 12 volts bulb, the stock bulb on that series don't light up, only the new bulb lights up. This seem to works to my advantage since the 3 bulbs in the corner cluster is not visible anyway thru the clear reflector and each of the bulbs in that cluster is wire in series with one bulb along the clear reflector. So I just change the 3 bulbs along the reflector and left the other 3 stock. It still looks yellow when it flashes because it's incadescent but the reflector looks clear when it's off which is what I wanted.
Just to test it out, I replaced both bulbs in the series with the Sylvania 2721 and both lights up but dimmer which is expected since they are 12 volts each. What I don't understand is why the stock both won't light up when I replaced just one. I know the bulbs are different voltage but they should both still lights up. Anyone who know a little more about electronic might be able to answer this.

There are four torx screws on each corners behind the mirror. Use the mirror control to move the mirror outward on each corner to reach each screw. You will need a torx #10 with a slim shaft to get to it. You will need to unscrew the screw at an angle for the top two screw but it shouldn't be to hard. Once the screws are out, the front plastic bezel will come off. You can then pull the back housing outward to get to the bulbs. You may find it easy to pivot the side mirror outward so the the mirror is facing away from the car door when doing all this. To pull the bulb sockets out of the housing use a very small flat screwdriver and pry on the white part of the socket, it should come of easy without damage. Good luck guys.

No warning lights. If you want all of them to light up I guess you can use nail polish remover to remove the amber coating from the stock bulbs and color it or leave it clear and then just put it back in.

Ok, i just did the mod by spray painting the 3 visible bulbs silver. Worked great, although if you look really close you can see the outline of the bulbs (no orange). I think Kevin's looks just a bit cleaner though.
Thanks Kevin for figuring this out!
BTW, I took pics but cannot seem to get them to show up in the post. Can anyone recommend a good free website to upload pictures to?

i think your pic might be too big to upload... try shrinking the size of the picture or reducing the resolution... i'd love to see how it looks...
i got the bulbs... but i need a new torx screwdriver, so I'm still waiting to install mine

The older W210 side mirror turn signals ARE indeed LED and they ARE sealed.
Great job on the mod BTW. Small detail, but great outcome nonetheless.

I thought Kevin was referring to the board as a whole (mbworld.org) when he said "Contrary to what some of the people on this board is saying..." I didn't realize that he was referring to the W208 C class forum specifically. There has been discussion amongst members regarding the LED vs Incadescent bulbs in other forums at mbworld.org as well. Sorry for the confusion.

i still have yet to purchase the allen wrench to do this job.
for those who have done it, can you shed some light as to the size of the wrench?
SAE? Metric?
Is it a size 3 Metric allen/hex wrench?

Is it possible to get a circuit board of some sort, attached to the lights, to make it flash in sequence from inner to outer? The timing has to be precise so that the inner lights begin to flash when the front flashers go off, or the outermost light (the ones that cars in the rear can see) flash with the front flashers. Plus points on the 'coolness factor' for that.
