How does the convertible top canvas attach to the top frame?
Does anyone have a good explanation or pictures of how the canvas attaches to the frame under the back window? My canvas is pulling away from the frame under the window where it meets the deck.

Just wanted to post this part number to fix this issue. The top attaches to the rear bow using special spring clips.
MB part# 2087790070
There are 8 of these clips. I ordered a handful and placed them next to the originals. They are about $1.70 each.

I have not seen a DIY top repair or replace it would be nice.
I am a DIY person and have replaced a rag top but not on benz.
have some good resources local for euro canvas though.
Can you post a photo of this repair?
Thanks, Gator

I can't as it's already fixed. Basically on the outside of your vert, under the rear window where it meets the tonneau was pulling up... drastically. the base of the top is stitched to a polypropylene strip that tucks into the rear bow and held by compression clips. If you want to see it, lower the top so the rear bow lifts to about 45*. Then study how the top attaches. It's really a simple design, I just had trouble finding the right part. MB Tucson ordered a bunch of things from the WIS diagram and texted pics for me at no cost.
Great parts department IMO... Michelle at MB Tucson gets 2 thumbs up in my book.

I should also say the clips are just tension clips. If you need to remove the top from the rearmost bow, begin to lower the top till the rear bow comes up. Then grab the canvas where it meets the rear bow and pull out... that simple.

Hey Miata,
I have autocrossed with some of you guys. The Miata is king of Autocross.
Thanks for the tips, Upholstery has always been my weak point, Fabbing gage mounts or hood scoops that look and function with the car, custom engine accessory brackets and suspension components that function well from a race or show car perspective is me.
I always knelt down and handed my upholstery parts to the pro's.
My top is in really good shape for the age and mileage but I like to learn as well.
Cheers, Gator

Yea, I was a big M1 guy. Had a 1992 base and a 1996. Used them as daily drivers in Pittsburgh for many years. The problem came when I bought my E36 BMW coupe as a second car. Within 10 min of owning it I knew I had to sell the Miata and have an E36 vert.
