'01 CLK430
New guy & a few ?s

What's up everyone!! I have a '01 clk430, pretty stock with the exception of h&r/bilstein. It's got 85k miles and has been a great car but is having a few issues lately that I need to square away.

I saw some old posts about someone having a PDF copy of a service manual, I would love to get my hands on it if anyone has it.

Here's the issues I'm dealing with:
1) Sunroof popped really loudly one night while driving, I'm assuming the cable let go, and had heard you could repl just the cable or the pot metal ends. If not, I'll bite the bullet and repl the frame.

2) Some water had been getting in the trunk and it fried my bose amp. I've seen some posts on the wiring breakdown and have thought about putting in an aftermarket amp and keeping the stock nav head unit, but I thought that bose systems used 3ohm load speakers or something weird.

3) Just today the turn signals were staying on to the left with the turn signal switch in the neutral position. I pulled the fuse for now, but will have to pull the steering wheel and see if the switch needs cleaned or replaced.

Anyhow, any tips on these or a link to the PDF manual would help greatly. Thanks in advance!!

Dave

Welcome Dave,

The PDF service manual that I've seen tells you what service is required and the time/mileage interval. The PDF version used to be available for free at the MBUSA website. I haven't seen one in a long while though. The actual book is less than $5 at a dealer. I can give you the book's part number, but the service interval is posted at Signal to Noise under Flexible Service System (scroll down the left side).

If you mean the service manual that tells you 'how' to perform maintenance, there are two versions, but I don't think anyone has ever put either one in a PDF format. The first one is called the WIS. WIS stands for Workstation Information System. TheWIS comes on 2 DVDs, must be installed on a hard drive, and covers every model MB. US spec, Euro spec, all of them. Forget about a PDF. It’s entirely too big. There is a help PDF for the WIS - just the help is 4.5 MB

There is a $60 (that's what I paid 3 years ago), CLK specific, single DVD that MBUSA sells at the 800 number. People have printed individual services, but converting the entire thing to a PDF would probably take a month. BTW, it can't be copied. Or rather, every copy I've ever made recognized that the software wasn't on the original DVD and shut itself down. So a *working* bootleg, er 'backup copy', is probably out of the question.

The WIS can be copied, which is how most of them are sold on Ebay. I don't remember what I paid. I do remember that I had to install it twice before it would work.

There's one other DVD that I know of. It's called the EPC – electronic parts catalog. No procedures, just parts.
