Who all here...

Are running springs with no spring pads, whether it be front or rear:

How does it ride?
Are there any funny sounds? You know, like metal grinding or clunking.

I'm just looking for pros & cons of doing this.

99CLK320,
how low can you go? I haven't heard/read any complaints wrt no pads but logic would seem to say that there would/should be more road vibration translating into the cabin and or some metal on metal noises of some kind, no? MB made those pads for a reason, no?

One would think, but you never know why they do things sometimes!! I could always make up some thinner peices for the front.

Others have shaved the pad down until it meets the top of the spring. This would be the same difference as having no pads for those that worry about spring play.

i got no pads at all Ghost...
When it gets so cold where im and if snow and salt got into it, it will squeek lil bit, ( i grease it up and gone).

When im rolling on the road is like i have pads, i dont feel anything.
when i go over speed bump, once in a while it make the clunk noise since spring move lil from top(no pad), other than that, im happy young buck and no complaints at all.

Exactly, so you can solve this issue by taking a spring pad and shaving off the top/ cutting the pad down until it meets the top of the spring..

Back at ya Brofrom last time.
Since I can't beat you in the gym I'll beat you here

i thought about doing this but with the time, it will break/get chewed since rubber gets sooo thin, so might as well, go with no pads
and if pads are not even , once side will look lower and other higher

How often do you have to grease up? Wonder what CLKMAN/FAN did because I believe I remember him saying that he has no noise/problems.

one thing i would worry about over long usage is possible rust developing in that area due to metal to metal friction.

none
Did this on my old C230, dipped the top 3-4 inches of coil(dipped one inch or so) into some rubberized truck bed liner. Two coats was pretty thick and worked like a charm, no noise or corrosion after two winters. Drop was pretty subtle with OEM springs.
