DRL won't work for me, need ignition hot in engine compartment

Have tried the driving light module recommended to me but can't get it to work. I have replaced my city driving H1 bulbs with LED and want to make them light whenever the engine runs. I understand that I could have changed my headlight switch with a Canadian replacement but was trying to find a point in the engine compartment that would be hot with ignition/engine on. The DRL was recommended but I can't get it to work right. Engine off no voltage at outputs, engine on have 13.4 V (charging voltage) at outputs, when I connect voltage drops back to zero. Just need to find easy place to steal voltage near fuse panel in engine compartment.
