Which is Best TireSet Up

For a 2000 CLK- Which is the best setup for traction in both Dry and wet weather please advice and thanks in advance--

225/40/18
255/35/18

OR
235/40/18
265/35/18

I currently have
225/40/18 & 265/35/18
I was told that is not the optimal setup--

I have my car lowered slightly with Eibach springs--- What is the best online site to purchase tires- apart from Tirerack will like to compare prices

Your current sizes are not optimal because they are not as close in diameter to each other as the sets mentioned above. Both of them will work on the car but the wider set "might" rub depending on how aggressive your lowering is and wheel offsets. Personally, I have the wider sizes on my CLK430 with zero problems.

BTW, this should be in the CLK forum at least.

EDIT: All things being equal, the wider set will perform better in the dry and slightly worse in the wet. How much? Not much.
