Hard Wired My Passport

I just hard wired my passport radar detector. The only problem is it doesn't turn off with when i turn off my engine. I have to manually turn it off. I hard wired it VIA fuse box on the driver side. Does anyone have any suggestion on which fuse to use? They seem to be all live.

I know of one wire that is wired to ignition only.. actually, it functions the same as the power wire for the radio, in that it will turn on and off at the same time as the radio. The wire for the cigarette lighter. Find out which fuse is for the lighter, and you'll have your answer.

Oh.. I dunno then. Why not run a wire to behind the cigarette lighter and tap into that?

Reviews have said that the Escort Passport 8500 X50 is the BEST radar detector around, beating out the Valentine One. I purchased one after getting three tickets in the course of two weeks, cops seem to like to pull me over. Since then it has saved my *** on several occasions. I'd reccomend the 8500 X50 version.

I'm not an expert but I know that different areas use different bands of radar and some use laser. The new type of radar that gives some detectors problems is the POP radar, which is only on for an instant. The X50 has a feature to detect that and reviews said it was the best at it. I haven't encountered an area that uses it but my detector does give off a lot of false alarms for it. Some areas use laser, but even if your detector picks it up you're pretty much done, because those work by hitting your car and as soon as it does it gets a reading, but I haven't had those in my area. Different areas use different bands of radar, but with my experiences the X50 has picked them up with a lot of time to spare.

Hard Wire Detector off Cig Lighter

Maybe this will help,

This proceedure allows detector to turn off when key fob is removed.

I found the easiest way to hardwire detector was to tap into Black/green wire (Positive) and Brown wire (Ground) that feeds the cig/lighter.

Ran wires through center consoule, >out the side (near dash side fuse panel), >up behind window ("A" frame) moulding, >and exit (right near rear view mirror).

Extremely clean looking and easy to remove dectector when need arises.

Hope this helps...
