2006 CLK Headlight Switch
 

Just bought a 2006 CLK. Does anybody know if the symbols indicating headlights, parking lights, automatic, etc. are supposed to be backlit on the dash just around the outside of the headlamp control switch?

Mine don't light. The dealer ordered a new switch, installed it and the same result. Told me they looked at other new CLKs on their lot and none of the switches are backlit.

I've got the same model with the same issue. It really seems like somebody missed something!!

same here, no backlight, kinda annoying at night

No backlighting on my 05. However the mirror buttons just above the light switch are lit!!!

That's the way mine is--I think the designers just "forgot". There ought to be a way to rig up a light similar to how the mirror positions are lighted. MB really needs to replace that section of the instrument panel. It does just pop out from the dash, so they ought to be able to redesign it. I wonder if that might be a recall item that they have fixed in later VIN's?

Yup, i have an '03 and it lights up. Maybe the dealer can just switch it out with one from a 2003?

My '04 CLK500 lights up. There's a light on the rotating switch, and on every position that the switch goes to.

i dont understand how they could stop producing the light for 05 and 06s. I am gonna call up my service advisor tomorrow and see if they could retrofit one from an earlier model

must be another cost cutting method.

If either the 2004 or 2005 is lighted, can someone find a part number for the dash insert to see if it would work in the 2006 model?

there is no dash insert. It is the entire switch assy. I am sure the 03-05 switches will fit as well in a 06.
