Remove Changer - Need Reprogramming??

I just got a 2008 CLK350 with a 10 disc changer in the glove box.
I never will use it and it takes up a lot of room.
I would like to remove it and sell to some needy person.
BUT...
I was told by MB service people that THEY would have to reprogram the communication system of the car if they removed the changer!!!
They also said it would take about an hour ($100+/hr).

It is very easy to take out the changer; however, once you take out the changer no sound comes out of the radio so it is likely that it needs re-programming.

Hi All
I just took out my changer.
VERY easy.
1) Go to the dealer and get the Fiber Optic bypass connector for $4.50. (it is plastic, about 1.5", 1/4"D)
2) Remove the TORX screw that holds the changer in (on the right side going UP) - you don't need to remove the two on the right side holding the bracket on to the changer.
3) Remove the power connector on the changer.
4 Disconnect the FO connector on the changer.
5) Remove the FO connector carefully from the plastic block.
6) Remove the FO cables carefully from the FO connector.
7) Insert the FO cables into the Bypass connector and lock.

Will this work for a 2009 CLK350 with Sirrius? I disconnected 6CD changer this a.m., and the sateilitte went dead. When I reconnected, the satelitee was working again. And I hate to sound stupid, but where is the plastic block? That's different then the conneftion on the CD changer, right?

Does this work on all CLK's? I have an '03 CLK500 and would like the room in the glove box.
TIA

I saw some other instructions and they all seem to be very similar. I suggest that you talk to MB to make sure and buy the FO jumper from them.

FYI -- spoke to a Mercedes parts manager who said this WILL NOT work in newer CLK models because it is a MOST system and the FO Bypass won't work. Apparently it's a more complicated and expensive fix.Lucky me. I'll just get used to my tiny glove box!!

Mine is a 2008 CLK 350 and it worked just fine. I even verified with the service advisor and technician and bought the part for the FO jumper at the service deparptment.

Would you mind giving me the part number. All the MB people I'm speaking with aren't making this easy for me. One guy wouldn;t even look up the part unless I could give him a part number!! I'm willing to make the 5 buck investment to see if this will work for me, just to spite them!!! Thanks...

Im calling right now and being told the same fing thing. What the hell?

Can one of you that have this part take a pic. That might help in the future with dealers who dont know what the part is since this apparently is not a MB part. (coming from my dealer, does not make them correct) Thanks guys.

Last edit: the parts guy talked to the tech and said that is the correct part. Said it might throw a code, did that happen to any of you?

If you send me an email, I will rep;y with a photo.
If you go to the MB parts department, ask to see the two kinds of FO butt connectors they have, look at the part, and you will see that it will have the AMP PN 1355734-1 on it.
My email is knuts026@comcast.net

No code, no problem, just took out the changer, disassembled the connector to expose the two FO cables, put them into the butt connector, turned the car on and everything worked just fine.

Well I took pics of what they gave me using that part number. On the receipt it has a MB part number 000-545-33-84. Here are the pics, I dont have a lens that allows super close up so this is the best you get. Let me know if this is the correct butt connector adapter.

Ok here we go. The pics I posted in post number 23 and the MB part number are what you will need. This is a 5 minute process once you have everything together.

First make sure you have a number 20 torx screwdriver. That will be needed to remove this screw

Next it takes a bit of effort to remove the changer, just take your time and wiggle it out from the right like previously told. It will come out. Once you have it out there should be plenty of cable to work with, dont worry about anything getting snagged. Once you are looking at the back you will see two cables and they would be in this location.

Where the green color is where the orange fiber optic cable goes. Unplug that and the other wire. The FO cable is connected with this connector.

Just pull out the grey part and that will easily allow the optic cable to come out.

Now there are two color for the optic cable, one red and one should be a grey color. These go into your connector you purchased. They are end dependant, meaning the red will only go in on one side of the connector and vise versa. Once you have those in the connector push down on the tabs to lock it in place and hide your cables. Now its out and everything works as advertised. I had no error message, same as knuts said. GL.
