Just got my CLK350...

I posted her a few weeks ago, and in the end, I ended up leasing a brilliant silver clk350 on ash for 24 months. I figured it was the best idea, in terms of money, and in terms of time. In 2 years, the new CLK will be out, and I'll go ahead and get the 550. For now, I'm just going to re-aquaint myself with Mercedes.

I have to say that I am thrilled and impressed. The car, even the 350, is beautiful and drives great. The new 7 speed and the improvement of hp is a great improvment. I thought I would be dissatisfied, but I am not. However, I am running into some trouble and I wanted to share and see if you guys could help me out here...

I was told by a guy at the dealership that the new mbs dont have a break in period. I definetly kept that in mind for the first 100 miles. However, when i read through the owners manual, i came across the 1000 mile break in period, and since then, ive been driving the car the way they suggest. The car now has about 140 miles and I'm worried that I may have "hurt" the engine or something.

I've encountered two problems thus far, one of which I've heard of before. On two accounts, from a dead stop, going between 1st and second gear, the car stopped and then, before hitting 2nd, gave a big yank.

There also seems to be a noise coming from the back of the car when I'm stopped every once in a while. It sounds as if something is banging back and forth but I can't seem to figure out what it is.

Any insight or info would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Mercedes
You should adhere to the instructions in your owner's manual about the break in period. I doubt your engine during your 140 miles. As long as you didnt keep it in the high rev for a long period of time you'll be fine.

I had a problem with my transmission shifting harshly from 1st to 2nd. It was because my tranny had a leak and once they fixed that and topped it off with fluid it was fine. But I have the 5 speed, and your 7 speed may have some electronic issues.

Take your car in and have them look at it. It's under warranty so no worries.

It was very minimal. I did drive the car at high speeds, but in terms of revs, its not like i drove the car for 20 seconds with the tach at 6.

If the problem persists, I will bring it in. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

There is a relevent TSB that many mambers say gives complete resolution to the 7 speed tranny jerk issues. Yu should be able to check into it.

My CLK500 had a 7 speed tranny issue. 1-2 & 2-1 hard shifts "hesitation"...leak in tranny. MB replaced the tranny after 1st week of ownership (24hrs. to replace). No problems since. GREAT SERVICE!

GREAT CAR.

BTW...it's a lease and under warrenty...drive it the way you want to.....jm2c

I tried to use alldata before, however, Mercedes is not an option when it comes to manufacturers.

I'm going to bring the car in over the weekend. That noise I was talking about is coming from the back of the car on the drivers side, mainly when the car is idle.
