Hi all, new to the forum. I have a '05 CLK320 and have had a problem with my right headlamp. Low beam headlight went out and took the car in to replace the bulb but that was not the problem. One MB Dealership says its the headlamp control unit (appx $900 to repair) and another MB Dealership says its the entire headlamp that needs to be replaced ($1700).

Is there another way to remedy this problem...maybe by replacing the part with another that is not OEM? Would this work?

Were you having problems with that bulb lighting up? If so it could be the ignitor. It could also be a ballast.

You should be able to find a single headlight for much less than they are quoting. Check eBay for headlight and ballast

Mercedes sells a repair kit for the Xenon headlights (simple to install)
If the headlight does not turn on more than likely its the ignitor

I have done several..with the kit from Mercedes...

The dealership said they replaced the bulb and it would work for a few seconds then burn out
