I'm So Offset!!

I bought rims from member here he said wheels came from SL its double spoke AMG wheels 8.5X19 et25 with 235/35/19 10X19 et28 with 265/30/19 I have 05 CLK500 with Bilstein shocks and H&R springs. I think front works fine without any trouble, however at rear both make crazy sound something like haning bunch of cans. i took out wheels and looked inside, wheel didn't touch shock or springs though feels like wheel was touching plastic cover with fabrics. i am guessing i need wheel spacer for rear and what mm do i have to have? also can someone tell me that picture of pacer is hubcentric spacer or just spacer. thank you so much |
may be the bolt is too long then ?

actually i am using short one from my old wheel HRE.
they are little short then original mb bolt. i checked whith tire shop that they said bolt are fine. they are guessing wheel is touching inside. thanks for help but i need more help from members here. help me out. thanks |
Rear offsets are pretty aggressive with that wheel width and offset. I don't know if spacers will help your issues Chan.

Spacers pictured are hubcentric.
If they are AMG wheels, then they use ball seat type lug bolts, i.e. OEM type bolts. The HRE wheel bolts you are using should be conical type lug bolts and should not be used with the AMG wheels. As for offset, 28mm et in the rear should give you more than enough clearance from the plastic wheel well cover. I'm running a 28mm offset in the rear (38mm et offset with 10mm spacer) with no rubbing between the rim and the wheel well cover. Jack up the rear of the car and look from underneath to see how much clearance you have. |

Also make sure you torque the bolts with a good torque wrench to 85lb !!! :D

Don't think in terms of bolt length. It all depands on the wheels and if you use any spacers. Basically you put a bolt in the wheel and check how much it sticks out in the back. The OEM sticks out 5/8th of an inch. Anything over that and you will not be able to tighten the fronts and on the rears the ends of the bolts will hit the e-brake (at least on my 03 clk320). Also make sure you have the proper bolt seat for the wheels you are using, cone or conical shape verses ball shape.
For my HRE's, the offsets are 34mm et for the fronts and the rears are 38mm et. I used 23mm for the front lugs bolts and 37mm for the rears with a 10mm spacer. The fronts you can use slighty longer bolts as there is nothing to interfere, i.e. e-brake, but like dariusf said, be careful with the rears as you can hit the e-brake. A good rule of thumb is to have 5-6 turns on the lug bolts when fully seated. |

Different wheels will require deferent bolts. The OEM bolts that came with my car are much longer in fact the shaft (not counting the head) is 40mm long. That's for the OEM 2003 standard 16" wheels while the 19" Monarch Euro 63 wheels need a bolt with a total shaft length of 24mm. Thats why I think the safest way to deal with this is to put the proper (conical or ball) bolt threw the wheel and check how much is sticking out. On 2003 CLK320 it can't be any loner then ~15mm and at least 5-6 turns. Should be the same across all w209 CLKs. |
Thanks everone it helped so much. I bought 10mm h&r hub spacer and they stopped touching. However fender was tuching when car has body roll. Ordered 12mm bolt with 34mm ball seat type today. Will be soon. Now I am having problem with outside fender scratches tires. When I used pepboy cheap spacer. 5/16" worked fine no touching inside or outside. Should I get 5mm h&r spacer or fender rolling? Also if I get 5mm spcer should I get little more short bolt? Anyway thank you so much.
Also need more helps. Thank you Ps. Is there anyone who want change 5mm h&r spacer with 10mm spacer? They are brand new. |

Hi everyone thanks for tips and helps.
i took out 10 mm spacer and put 5 mm spacer and new bolts. 34mm is too long so i got short one. when i had 10 mm hub spacer fender was scratch outside of tires, now they got much better. i didn't try with 4 people in the car, but hopely never happens putting 4 people in my car. so thanks so much for the helps. thank you ps : i am selling 10mm H&R hub spacer. offer me. |
