KevBlah's Quad Exhaust Thread

After talking about it for several months, I have finally completed my custom quad exhaust conversion on my 07 CLK550.

What I did was put back the stock bubble resonators that I had previously removed, install a Magnaflow X-Pipe, and then from there out to quad tips. There is no muffler, so it produces a fairly loud and deep exhaust note, with a nice growl from the V8.

The labor was a bit more than I expected in terms of cost, but it came out nearly perfect. I'm not sure if I am totally satisfied with the tips, they still don't look OEM to me, for some reason. However, they did paint most of the piping black to give it a clean look.

As you can see, it's snowing right now, so I can't really take it out and throttle down, so you'll all have to wait for a better exhaust clip.

Quad AMG Tips - $200
Magnaflow X-Pipe (10791) - $70
DIY Bumper Cutout - Free
Labor + Custom Piping - $530
Total Job Cost: $800

i think old style was very good. something wrong now for me. maybe pipes are too long??

That thing sounds mean! How's the drone on the highway? I do see what you're saying about the tips. Judging from the pic above, they aren't centered in the bumper hole. Also they stick out a bit. Almost like mine. I'm trying to make some time to go and get them pushed in. That sound is awesome!

I think you may be right, the driver's side tips are definitely not centered. The passenger side ones seem to look all right, though. I added another picture of the rear from a different angle, they look fine in that pic.

As far as sticking out too much, I think they're okay...not sure.

Haven't taken it out on the road yet, just got it cleaned yesterday and it's snowing now, so it's sitting in a garage.

by the way really sound is amazing

I see what you're saying now with the second pic. It looks like the drivers side is hanging a bit lower than the passenger. Mine too..lol

Very nice, adds the perfect touch to the clk's rear end. Love the exhaust tone, so much better than stock.
Best $800 to spend on clk!

Maybe you need to raise the exhaust tips a little more?

dynomite05 Jan 18, 2011 07:58 PM

It would be killing me if I couldn't drive the car after an exhaust mod. That motor sounds great, I know you must be anxious.

I'm very anxious, but it'd be stupid to take it out right now because it'll get dirty and I won't be able to really get on the throttle in all of the slush/ice. The wait will be worth it. Judging on the sound from startup and revs, I'm sure it'll sound beastly on the road...

your is very similar to mine sounds.

sounds great but as brought up the tips are off and need to be adjusted...

AMS Performance Jan 18, 2011 11:00 PM

exhaust hangers need to be adjusted, its hanging way too low. Drivers side may need to be rewelded to be better centered. Mandrel bent pipe would have been better, but if you are just going for sound that's probably irrelevant anyways.

that definitely won't be a sleeper exhaust that's for sure :)

Sounds mean

Kevwood Jan 19, 2011 03:45 AM

Nice work so far Kev, a few tweeks and it'll be great. Sounds like a beast.

dr_npz Jan 19, 2011 08:57 AM

I like the sound ! +1

Newjd2 Jan 19, 2011 09:47 AM

Whew sounds amazing!... Just raise it up a bit and it'll be just as aesthetically pleasing too...

Couple questions...what size piping is our stock piping?...also did you just run your piping under our stock sway and around the spare wheel well?...there was enough room?...

Thanks and keep it up...

Our stock piping is 2.5". The piping for the driver's side fits perfectly in the notch for the stock piping, but the passenger side piping hangs a little bit lower, but not by much. The tightest fit was fitting the two tips and a y-pipe on the passenger's side, because of the spare tire well.

dynomite05 Jan 19, 2011 05:48 PM

That sounds crazy! I hat revving it in park, feels like the car has no power. lol

Clkboi Jan 19, 2011 06:35 PM
