Question for a tuner like Kleemann
I contacted Brabus some time ago but all they had is their superbly expensive 6.1 mod which takes an awful lot of time as well.
Wouldn't dropping the engine be extremely easy as well as being seeing as all you would need is the ECM + some other very basic modifications? Mounting shouldn't be a problem especially if the base is a V8 based engine in something like the CLK500.
Any thoughts as to how much this would run?
). Trying posting in the Performance forum; you may get more responses there than here.
There is a simple S/C upgrade for the CLK500 that costs ~17K to bring it upto ~450 bhp @ the crank, but in my eyes dropping the supercharged factory engine would be easier and cheaper.
Well for the price I dont see the CLK55 as being worth 70K+ USD. The E55 is just 7K shy of the figure. Besides that most supercharges for the 55 series engine cost an arm and a leg. Basically a loaded CLK55 would run $70-$80K add a supercharger and your at 100K easily (some supercharges cost $42K USD) thats right smack into SL55 territory, doesn't make too much sense for anyone to upgrade the CLK at that price especially seeing how much nicer the SL is aesthetically plus a full bonified warranty.

Wholesale price on a crate N/A 55 engine is approx $29K, a 55K engine will undoubtedly be more (I cannot quote exact prices as my EPC is not up to date with that model range yet). Of course, thats just the engine, without wiring harness, ECU, IC cooler lines, pump etc, etc. Add a conservative $5K for parts and then a few thousand for labor and you are in the high 30's (assuming the AMG SC engine is the same price as a N/A engine which Im sure it isnt).
Taking all the AMG SC parts and putting them on a standard 55 engine is possible- RENNTech does this. Standard N/A 55 engine will not tolerate 1 bar boost as the CR is too high for that- hence the $$ difference in "low" and "high" boost systems from RT (the latter requires a full engine rebuild to low CR spec). Their pricing begins to make sense-

This has been discussed before in the past- the long and short if it, as I see it, are this:

If you can buy a SL55 for $100K grab it NOW!

With regards to the SL55 pricing I was referring to the more expensive supercharger options out there (ie the $30L-$40K range) thats about $120K. Besides an E55 is much cheaper.
Put in a high boost s/c system like AMG IHI kompressor is costy
Aftermarket low boost s/c is a fine choice, no need to enhance the motor.
My tunner is planning CLK55 upgrade project
We examine those key parts between CLK55 & CLK500
No stroke up needed there (I hate that, too)
I reaaly enjoy the 2.82 smooth moves while CLK55's
3.07 remind me of C32AMG, a little too rush.
